Title: A traitor amidst the people
Post by: Zainab_M on December 18, 2006, 06:52:47 am
 salamem everyone ..

Several of my friends and acquaintances have since long been of the view that the Palestinian President, Mr. Mahmoud Abbas aka Abu Mazen, is neither sincere nor dedicated to his so-called cause of serving the Palsestinian people. Some even believe that he is on the payroll of the US & Israeli intelligencia.  It might never be possible to know that, but very obviously his goal is nothing beyond getting rich and retaining power.

Mr. Abbas is well aware of the humiliating defeat his Fatah party suffered in the recent free & fair Palestinian polls in January 2006. Despite knowing that Hamas is the choice of the greater majority, Mr. Abbas is trying to dislodge the Hamas government by disregarding the wishes of that majority.  Also, Mr. Abbas hasn't yet disclosed any clear-cut agenda for a future Palestinian state. To top it all, in the summer of 2006, CBC headline news stated that Ehud Olmert had sent a consignment of weapons to Mr. Abbas to fight Hamas, implying that Mr. Abbas used Israeli weapons to fight his own brethrens for clinging on to power.  It left me stunned.  It's often hard to figure out what the heck is happening in this 21st century Ummah.

If Mr. Abbas really cared for his country, he would never cater to the wishes of the Israeli government to represent Palestine after the January'06 elections.  Had he conceded defeat and taken his place at the opposition bench (which is the proper democratic procedure for a  defeated party), Israel and the international community would eventually have no other choice but to negotiate with Hamas directly.  Surely, this must be the first time in the history of this planet when a party that's been badly defeated in a democratic election continues to stay in control and make important decisions. Not just that, but this man seems quite oblivious that he's solely responsible for dragging his country into a dangerous civil war .. as if Palestine wasn't already besought with enough problems.  Now Abbas is trying to initiate a virtual coup by calling for snap elections.  The elections held in January 2006 were free, fair and just.  The world knows that and the international observers have confirmed it.  So what's Mr. Abbas's problem?

Also, what boggles my mind yet again is the complacency and shameless double standards of the international community.  We keep watching and listening much about democracy and peoples' choice .. to the extent that the official reason for the pre-emptive and disastrous attack on Iraq was said to be "bringing democracy to the Middle East."  But the most democratically elected government next door has been rejected and the party that was booted out by the people still continues to represent that country;   the reason for it being:  the outsiders don't like the ones who are the peoples' choice.

Needless to say, Mr. Abbas has been cleverly monitoring the situation.  He knows that Israel and the U.S. love him for his subservience and greed.  Thus, the fact that he's corrupt, selfish and a loser in the democratic elections is insignificant to him and his external allies.

I often ask myself .. what makes the outsiders hate Hamas so much?  Is it simply the fact that Hamas refuses to recognize Israel?  That's one of the reasons, but it apparently goes far beyond that.  The fact that Hamas is incorruptible, its leaders have a down-to-earth lifestyle and they have since long been trying to make Palestine a welfare state are all aspects disliked by the West.  After all, how can they control a country and use it to achieve their purpose where the government is honest and cares for its people?  It's no secret that if sanctions were not imposed on the Hamas government, their achievements would have been remarkable and their popularity would have soared still more.  That had to be stopped by the forces outside, and the enemies were lucky to find a traitor who was more than willing to help.

The very recent incident of an attempt on Mr. Ismail Haniya's life began when he was returning to Gaza with a substantial amount of cash from donations, much needed for the poverty sticken people of Palestine.  His convoy was attacked by Israeli forces on the pretext that the money would be spent on funding "terrorism."  But this time Israel didn't need to do much to carry out its aggression.  The mercenary, Mr. Abbas was at Israel's service to complete the job.  At his behest, what took place was a failed attempt to assassinate the democratically elected Prime Minister of Palestine, succeeding in killing the PM's bodyguard, critically wounding the PM's son and creating utter chaos all over.  What a pretty gesture of 'nationalism' by the Fateh "loyalists" at a time when Palestine needs to be strongly united against the ever-growing Zionist apartheid!

As usual, the media has wasted no time in manipulating matters.  It's been giving full support to Fateh.  All demos and protests we see on television are by the fewer Fateh supporters who are made to look like the majority while we see nothing of the actual majority that brought Hamas to power and still stands firmly by it.

Let's not forget that Abu Mazen played a similar game within his own Fateh Party in the lifetime of the late President Yassir Arafat in trying to be the one in charge.  It was primarily because of Abu Mazen's trouble-making tactics, his discreet overture to the enemies of his country and his constant interference in Mr. Arafat's presidency (along with his friend Ahmed Qureiya) that kept President Arafat under house arrest for the last 3 years of his life.  Not to mention the suspicious nature of President Arafat's death, the reason for which has still not been disclosed by the authorities at a Paris hospital where he died.

The question now is .. will the truce agreed upon recently between the two Palestinian factions bring about a positive change anytime soon?  Will it even last long enough to bring any such changes?   I guess one needs to be unrealistically optimistic to believe that it will.  Eventually it seems that the Palestinians will have to choose between forced snap elections or a civil war.  Neither of the two sounds promising.  If they choose snap elections, needless to say, Fateh will be the winners through mass rigging and intimidation arranged in collaboration between the Fateh traitors, the Zionists and the United Mistakes of America.

perfect evaluation zeynab.

I would say it's time the definition of 'democracy' is revised officially and put accordingly into the dictionaries in future.  The new definition should be "DEMOCRACY, NOT PEOPLES' CHOICE BUT CHOICE OF THE POLITICANS AND LEADERS OF USA AND ISRAEL."

Elections in most developing countries are a political stunt arranged by the western powers as an 'alibi' for their future 'political crimes.'  considering that, i'm not at all surprised that the current palestinian president is asking for snap elections. he's simply following the 'rules' that are protected under the table.  this is exactly what tony blair meant when he said recently: "the people of palestine have made a wrong choice.  they should try again."

Very true

this is exactly what tony blair meant when he said recently: "the people of palestine have made a wrong choice.  they should try again."[/size]

Yes, i saw that too.  but how come no one from our great free world is asking "who decides whether or not the people of palestine have made a wrong choice, you mr. blair or the palestinian people?"

i too saw him say this on tv. and yeah, this is the question.  what authority has mr blair to determine the correctness of the choice of palestinians?  even if the people elect an 'undeserving' leader, does that mean re-elections according to democratic norms?

poor mr blair is reminiscing days of the brit empire long gone down the drain.

 As Salaamu Aleikum,

It's amazing what people are willing to do for money, money, money.... While the rest of us sit back and let them get away with it, in hopes we too will get 'a piece of the pie'...

yes, u r so correct.  money and power r the only 2 motives of today's ummah.  while there r a few honest and rational people too among us, but they're too helpless.  too little, too late.  really sad situation ..
