We've all tasted chocolate sauce so many times poured over our desserts.  But perhaps few of us have thought of making our homemade chocolate sauce, thinking it might be too difficult and complicated.  Not at all.  It's just as simple as it is delicious.

Chocolate sauce is chocolate melted to the point where it can be poured over just about any dessert or pudding of your choice.  It's not complicated. There are numerous different ways of preparing it at home but as long as it can be poured, it's called chocolate sauce.

The rich and creamy chocolate sauce is dangerously delicious.   It makes an excellent topping for homemade cakes, cup cakes, ice-creams, fruit salads, trifles, strawberries, bananas as an after-dinner/lunch treat .. you can even drizzle chocolate sauce even over your cookies.  Chocolate sauce can add a fancy look to the simplest of desserts.  Remember to have a pastry bag with a narrow tip .. that's the only thing required for drizzling chocolate sauce over your desserts and cookies.

I repeat, it tastes sublime, yet it's unbelievably easy to make.   Take a look yourself.
Below are a few basic and easy recipes of chocolate sauce.

1) Plain Chocolate Sauce

Ingredients

    6 oz (170 g) of plain chocolate
4 fl oz (115 ml) of water
    1 oz (30 g) of butter
    6 tbsp of cream
    3 tbsp of sugar
    ½ tsp of vanilla essence

Method

In a medium sized pan heat the water and sugar, stirring constantly to dissolve the sugar. Bring to the boil and continue to stir until all of the sugar has been dissolved.
Break the chocolate into small pieces and cut the butter into small chunks. Add to the pan of water and sugar and stir.

Remove the pan from the heat and stir the sauce until the chocolate and butter have melted and all the ingredients have blended together.

Stir in the cream and the vanilla essence.  Serve the chocolate sauce immediately whilst it is still warm.

2)  Cocoa Chocolate Sauce

Ingredients

    1½ cups of milk
    1 oz (30 g) of butter
    4 tbsp of sugar
4 tbsp of Cadbury's cocoa powder
    2 tbsp of cream
    1½ tbsp of cornflour
    ½ tsp of vanilla essence

Method

Blend together the milk, sugar, cocoa powder and cornflour with a whisk until a smooth paste has formed.

Transfer the mixture to a saucepan and heat over a medium heat until the mixture begins to boil.

Reduce the heat and simmer for 2 minutes.

Remove the pan from the stove and add the butter. Stir the butter until it melts and blends into the sauce mixture.

Finally, add the vanilla essence and the cream and stir well.  Serve the sauce warm.  Drizzle over your favorite pudding or dessert or cookies.

3)  Easy Chocolate sauce

Ingredients:

2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
1  2/3 cup sugar
1 cup whole milk or evaporated milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
A saucepan

Method:

Combine cocoa, sugar and milk in a medium saucepan over medium heat.  Allow the ingredients to come to a boil and stir.   Boil for 1 minute and remove from heat.  Add vanilla and stir.  Drizzle over your favorite dessert.  Cover and store in the fridge.

And remember to have a pastry bag handy otherwise you might find it hard to work with the delicious sauce you have just prepared.  Below is how pastry bags look like.
