BismEm

"That ye shall journey on from plane to plane."  (84:19)

The above verse taken from Surah Al-Inshiqaq .. can anyone give an idea what it refers to?  Might it refer to the next world or this world?

Salaam sis.  As you must have observed through the preceding verses of this Surah, Allah takes oath on the afterglow of sunset, the full moon and the night that mankind will "journey on from plane to plane."   It's hard to pinpoint the precise reference which is only known to Allah.  But if you study this Surah from the start, you will observe that it's very likely the reference is to the departure of the soul to the next world.  It might even refer to the immediate transition after death, the journey which follows soon after the angel of death takes away the soul .. the soul travels away while the lifeless and mortal remains are left behind.  Thus, the words " .. ye shall journey on from plane to plane." might, most likely, refer to the journey to next world - the journey of the soul into the next realm soon after leaving the physical body.  Or shall we say, journey on the path of Eternity.

Some readers of the Quran have also interpreted it as the different stages of earthly life prior to the departure of the soul in the next world.  But I personally think the first interpretation is correct.  And Allah knows best.

Yes, I too have the feeling it's a reference to the next world, as soon as one enters it after death.  It's wonderfully described.  May Allah make this journey peaceful and pleasant for all believers.  Ameen.  This is ever so important.

JazekAllah khair and thanks sister.  Walaikum Salam wr br.
