If you have a quiet home and you don't get much time to spend with your cat, he or she might not miss you much but they will miss ones of their own kind. That's an important reason why cats are so eager to rush outdoor at the slightest of opportunity. It's an interesting 'adventure' for them to search for friends in the neighborhood. Stray cats in particular, that have been living in the same neighborhood for long, will almost certainly know each other very well. While cat fights aren't unusual, cat meetings are a far more natural part of their temperament and more common too. Cat-meetings are a reality. They happen when cats intend to get-together for a 'chat' just as humans do. Favorite venues for cat-meetings are generally roof-tops, trees or just about any peaceful spot where they won't be disturbed. It's not uncommon that when we get out of bed in the morning and pull the curtains, we see a "cat show" in the garden or the yard or on the trees - a congregation of two or more cats relaxing close by and 'talking.' Only Allah knows what they talk, but they do surely talk. Study of cat psychology has proven that cats talk to each other. If you have two or more cats as pets, you will observe at some point that they will make a specific, unusual kind of noise while looking for each other .. another specific noise when one wants to play with the other and so on. As soon as the other cat hears that specific noise, he (or she) shows up. And did you know .. nose-to-nose cat greetings are also inherent of cats? It's not common with cats who are strangers to one another. But cats who know each other well but have been apart for a while feel safe enough for a nose-to-nose greeting to confirm visual recognition and gain information about how the other cat is, where he has been and what he has been doing. Just like humans eh? So, if you seen any two cats walking by, meeting each other by getting their nose close to one another (even if it's for a couple of seconds), you can be sure that those two cats haven't met for the first time. A few more facts about cats for cat lovers and cat owners Never give them chocolate. Most cats have a natural intolerance to chocolates and can make them ill .. sometimes seriously ill. In the same way, chocolates are not generally advisable for dogs either. If cats appear to be able to tolerate heat very well, that's because their ancestors were originally desert-living animals. Cats existed in ancient Egypt and Babylon since thousands of years in the past. Cats cannot understand punishment as humans or many other animals do. They must be praised and rewarded for desired behavior instead. LOL, it's true. Younger cats have a faster pulse beat / heartbeat than older cats. Cats like to nap rather than sleep but if relaxed enough to enter a deeper sleep, they produce the same brain wave patterns that we do when we dream. Cats blink and narrow their eyes when they accidentally make eye contact. To make friends with an unfamiliar cat, blink and look away when you catch his/her eyes. Yeah, it's true. I had read about cat meetings several years ago in an article published in Readers' Digest. I recall seeing this wonderful pic of more than a dozen cozily cats huddled together on a rooftop quietly enjoying their meeting. By the way, I had also put up this topic earlier @ Cat Meetings. Dog meetings (of sorts) also happen .. I mean stray dogs. I've seen them myself. Once we were returning home from a relative's house in my country of origin and it was almost midnight. The neighborhood was very deserted. What we saw amazed us. It seemed that all the stray dogs of the locality had gathered together at a particular spot on the sidewalk .. some were sitting down, some were sitting on their hind legs while some were strolling around close by. But all were quite together, looking at ease, apparently 'chatting' in their own language. They were apparently at ease because of the deserted surroundings and so they got together. We know for sure that animals have their own languages as the Noble Quran confirms by mentioning that Prophet Solomon understood the language of birds and ants. Heard of dog meetings too .. when a dog meets a new dog, it sniffs the butt, whereas cats meeting cats smell the face. And cats meeting old friends give a peck on the nose. |
