Title: Forced interviews of Rohingyas by armed soldiers in Burma

Burma enhances its color-coded citizenship scheme with forced interviews of Rohingyas by armed soldiers

Following intense violence against the Rohingya Muslims in Burma, the government is now sending in armed officials to determine the status of the group that has long been denied citizenship in the country.

It’s part of the well-established cycle of genocide in Burma: Each time the Rohingya have been subjected to murder and displacement, government officers and the army show up to further harass them and demand proof of their identities. It’s a question that the Rohingya can’t answer because they have been denied any citizenship papers, including birth certificates, since 1982.

Associated Press reporters observed that government officials who interviewed the Rohingyas, automatically filled in “Benagali” or “Bengali/Islam” under the “race” option without asking for an answer to that question. They would not allow anyone to fill in “Rohingya” as their nationality and even beat at least one man who refused to sign a form that falsely said he was "Bengali."

These forced interviews conducted by armed soldiers began with no official announcement on Nov. 8, and the government plans to have it carried out in all of Rakhine state where the majority of the Rohingya who are still in the country live.

The Arakan Project, a group based in Thailand, has warned that the results of this unsettling questioning could be used to definitively rule out citizenship for the Rohingya, who the government falsely claims are illegal Bengali immigrants.

Kachin Christians also Face Violence in Burma:

The Kachin, a largely-Christian minority in northern Burma, have been seeking autonomy for years and have been suffering human rights abuses and atrocities in those efforts.

Displaced residents of the Kachin state have been living in camps, and one of those camps was recently burned down by Burmese troops.

The abuses against the Kachin are eerily similar to the weapons used against the Rohingya: The army  has reportedly burned down homes, tortured citizens and raped women.

And the most shocking part of it:  Burmese president, Thein Sein, to be given "peace" award by the International Crisis Group ????????

"There can be no peace in Burma unless they throw out the 2008 constitution, which is neither democratic nor federal, and get a new one, which is democratic as well as federal. And Thein Sein is not interested in that. There are some shaky ceasefire agreements here and there, but nothing even resembles a lasting solution to Burma’s ethnic crisis. To give him a “peace prize” is outright stupid and just shows how naive ICG is in its assessments of the situation in Burma." - (Bertil Lintner, journalist and specialist on ethnic conflict in Burma).

Burmese Muslims are considered one of the most persecuted people in the world, according to the United Nations. Doctors Without Borders calls them among the most likely to be extinct. There are about six hundred Rohingyas who live in the USA.[/i]
