Title: "one of you a foe unto the other" - Surah Ta-Ha (20:123)

 BismEm

"He said: Go down hence, both of you, one of you a foe unto the other. But when there come unto you from Me a guidance, then whoso followeth My guidance, he will not go astray nor come to grief."  Surah Ta-Ha  (20:123)

Salam sisters and brother.  I need some feedback on this point.  The expressions "one of you a foe unto the other"  and before that the words "both of you"  .... does this refer to Adam and his wife or to Adam and Satan?  By reference to Adam and his wife, I mean the human race being enemies of each other over their differences of opinion.

Wa'Salaam sis.  I'm quite sure it refers to all humans and Satan.   This was the time when humans first step foot on earth and thereon began to proliferate.  The meaning is that when humans inhabit the earth, Satan will always be there to tempt and distract them.  If humans fall into the trap of Satan's temptations and obey him, they will only be hurting their own soul.  While Satan's temptations will seem attractive to them, in reality it will only bring them closer to their doom.  That's because the foolish ones with weak faith get blinded by their desires and fail to see that Satan is their arch enemy who's purpose is only to ruin them.  Thus the expression "both of you" refers to the human race and Satan, and "one of you a foe unto the other" refers to Satan's animosity toward humans expressed by his efforts to tempt & distract them.
