Title: Clarification (A general question on Ahadith)
Post by: MurtezaAFG on July 08, 2013, 11:19:17 pm
As-salamu 'alaykum wa rah-matul lah brothers and sisters.

I have something that I would like some clarification on regarding this website and it's attitude toward Hadiths.
While browsing around on this site I couldn't help but get the feeling that Hadiths are on a almost "hated" level.
The other night I was discussing with another Muslim friend of mine about Hadiths and I was trying to make a
point that technically the Quran is the only one real truth, and that technically Hadiths can't be considered actual law (in the Hadiths that address certain issues such as the Hadith about circumcision) and if one chooses not to follow it, it shouldn't be considered a sin because it's just a way of life; if one chooses to follow it then all the better because Allah is happy with the one who tries to better himself. Now, if a Hadith goes against what the Quran teaches, then clearly that Hadith is of fabrication. I guess I gave off the impression that I was arguing against Hadiths making it seem like I was 100% against all of them.

So what I'd like to know is what are the views on Hadiths of the MV team? Do you guys reject all of them? Do you accept the main ones (the ones that are said to be held in high prestige because of their authenticity)?

The way I see it, Hadiths can be great source of knowledge and learning for a Muslim, just as a science text book can be (excluding the theories of evolution exclaiming that life was created by chance).

Your input is much appreciated brothers and sisters.

Walaiykum As-Salam brother Murteza.  At MV we follow only the Quran, no Hadith.  We have made this point very clear in our forum rules.  Also, by the Grace of Allah, our Hadith board is very rich with information on dozens of topics revealing precisely why we look upon the man-written Hadith as profoundly discrepant and a major source of corruption.  Therefor, our method of acquiring guidance is only through the Noble Quran.  Alhumdulilah.

To answer your question whether we reject all Ahadith or not, well yes, we actually do reject all of them.  But we haven't come to this decision blindly, simply because of our hatred for the term "hadith."  We decided to reject all hadith on the basis of our analysis after reading the complete collections of Bukhari and Muslim Ahadith.

If you read carefully the following post and its entire thread, you will find the exact information you are looking for, and the answers to your query.  Also please read the links to a couple of other posts on Hadith evaluation contained within this thread.  Here is the link:

Salam brother Murteza.  One more point I'd like to mention here.   It is mostly very difficult to convince Hadith-adhering friends and teachers that a Muslim should follow the Quran only and not the Hadith or fatwas.  90% of mainstream Muslims have been indoctrinated in such a way since childhood that no matter how illogical and improper the Hadith culture is, they never acknowledge it.  In such a situation, I would suggest not to argue with them.  Just remain silent while they talk on hadith, but follow what your heart tells you to be the truth, that is, only the Quran. We cannot stop others from treading the wrong path but we can help ourselves by not becoming a party to it.  It's inherent of humans to be more easily attracted to misguidance than guidance.  Therefore don't get carried away by their views just because they're the majority.  Majority might be a show of strength because of their large numbers, but it isn't necessarily a guarantee for correctness.  Thus Allah says: "If you obeyed most of those on earth they would mislead you far from Allah's way." [Noble Quran 6:116].  Then again Allah reminds us: "O you who believe! Be careful of your duty to Allah, and be with the truthful." [Noble Quran 9:119]

Salam and welcome brother Murteza,

I really don't believe and can't imagine Allah holding us accountable for not following any hadith. To be held accountable for not following a literature which is full of lies and contradictions, would basically mean that from the very beginning, our Creator had intended to torture all people in Hell. And since the Qur'an clearly tells us that Allah is the most Merciful and the most Just, this is of course totally out of the question.

As-salamu 'alaykum wa rah-matul lah Sister Ruhi_Rose.
I read the link you have provided and Alhamdulillah it answered some of my questions, but some other questions  have arisen.

The following is what I agree with from Sister Zeynab's post:

"Secondly, if Hadith is a reputable institution, we should not be put in a position to pick the nice ones with the label of "the Prophet's sayings" and ignore the bad ones to avoid embarrassment.

However, these good ones can be retained for drawing moral and ethical lessons, and to beautify the Islamic literature....There must be no unwarranted presumptions, guesswork and deliberate manipulations."

I do however have a question about the following statement:

"Last but not least, an important and logical reason that a hadith which is compatible with the Quran is not indispensable because if it's compatible with Quranic values, then in any case the Quran is already there for reference and recourse.  So, why must we access a Quranic topic through an extra-Quranic literature when the Quran itself is available in our homes for reference and reading?"

I learned how to pray just last night (Alhamdulillah); I did so by searching it up on google (screening was done to make sure I found a legitimate source). The Quran doesn't tell you exactly how to pray, so as Muslims, how are we suppose to know how to pray? Wouldn't everyone be praying differently as a result? How would we know what to recite? Is there a right/wrong way of praying? Can we recite anything we want as long as it's from the Quran? Does it have to be verses from the Quran?
So what does the Quran say on praying and how to conduct it?
My greatest fear is that I am praying incorrectly and it wont be accepted by Allah.

walaikum assalam.

Thank you for your input, but I believe there may have been some miscommunication.
My inquiry was not about accountability of humans regarding hadiths as I don't believe we can be held accountable for (not) following them either.
