An error in the lunar sighting for this year’s Ramadan is the reason for the shortening of the holy month  :o

Saudi Supreme court calls for sighting Shawwal crescent on evening of 6 Aug

The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has called residents in the kingdom to watch the skies to sight the Shawwal crescent on the evenings of Tuesday and Wednesday. Those who sight the crescent (hilal) are requested to record the proof and inform the nearest court.

Sighting the crescent will decide the first day of Shawwal when Eid Al-Fitr is celebrated. If the crescent is sighted on the evening of Tuesday, then Wednesday would be considered as Eid. If that is the case, then there will be only 28 days of the holy month in 2013. Under such circumstances, worshippers fast a day any day after Eid and before the next Ramadan to make up for the 29th Ramadan. An error in the lunar sighting for this year’s Ramadan is the reason for the shortening of the holy month. This oddity has happened once 30 years ago.

If, however, the crescent is sighted on Wednesday evening, then Eid will be celebrated on Thursday after 29 days of Ramadan.

guys ! shukar Alhamdulillah  one more fast  ;D

Though  the decision has not been taken by saudi 's but news circulating that saudi missed one day fast ? there is a doubt it is supposed to be mistaken about the start of the Ramadan.?  And The most serious thing about this situation is that all the odd nights? People are worried about it , saudi government should admit there been mistake in fast ramadan 2013 if they have really done anything wrong and clear every matter .Lets Hope for the best Allah knows better
 :-\

Well  I don't  trust saudi's at all . ^:(

Hummm.  In Pakistan we have already missed one roza.  Pakistanis will be fasting only 29 days, not 30.  They began Ramadan on July 11 (very late, should have been on July 9 as in North America) and will likely be celebrating Eid-al-Fitr on August 9.   This recurring annual rigmarole on mistakes and blunders are always because of Saudi Arabia.  Every Ramadan we have this ghagra, larai and fasad.  Why must it be mandatory to follow Saudi Arabia?  Don't we all have our own Meteorological services in different countries and thus make our own decisions?   Why hanker after the Saudis as if their word must be the final one when they're the ones who make the most number of mistakes?  They don't even want to utilize the modern methods of sighting the moon nor determining the prayer timings.   My question to all Muslims:  Is it really that important for us to take orders from the Saudis for Ramadan?  They break their fast with scotch and vodka, not dates and water.  So, are we also supposed to do the same ??

LOL.  The Muslim world needs to wake up and stop looking upon the Sauds as their pope, bishops and priests.  This is Islam, not Christianity nor Judaism.   Allah Almighty has given each one of us the entitlement to perceive and understand matters and act accordingly .... regardless of others.

salamem

Thanks for ur response sis :) yeah because Pakistani mufti's are nuts even if the new moon came down into their royat hilal committee they wont accept it they prefer day after  :-\ Allah knows how many kaffara burden ummah is bearing because of ulma's and mufti's :(

I agree with u here also but who 's able to convince this blind Ummah ? not to listen to saudi arabia for moon sighting ? Actually they are fasad ki jarr (the root cause of all the trouble) to divided ummah that's why they don't want to utilize the modern methods of sighting,  our eid & fasting should be on one day throughout the world for showing the unity of Islam but as u said I appreciate it ,correct !" Saudis are their pope, bishops and priests " :( I don't know why are they supposed to be superior they are luckily just the care takers of Kaaba but not the care takers of deen -e -Ibrahimi  also Sad but true we can not forget that Islam is in the hands of Scholars , mufti's and they are all Human full of error and unfortunately People have extra "faith" in Saudi Arabia instead of applying one's own mind and think.Anyways Simply Saudi government have lost the plot they might be looking for a excuse to bring eid on Thursday so this is the best way. Allah will deal with them InshAllah.

Very correctly stated sisters Muslima and Ruhi.  Actually nowadays it's become a part of the Eid-al-Fitr culture for Muslims not to celebrate Eid on the same day.  They literally derive pleasure out of this infighting.   Not just different Muslim countries observe Eid on different days, but Muslims within the same country also do not observe Eid on the same day.  Pakistan is a typical example.  This also happens among the Muslim communities of US, Canada and UK.  Every masjid has its own imam.  By the end of Ramadan, a couple of days prior to Eid, every imam starts making plans how to construct a fight by using the issue of Eid.  Consequently their naive followers rally around them, vowing to observe Eid on a day that was disagreed by some other imam.   Saudi Arabia of course always makes the situation much worse with its illogical rules, it never helps.
