I did know that mother ducks carry their ducklings on their backs, but this one seemed to have made a real cozy room on her back for her little ones. Though ducks do sometimes make amazing spaces within their feathers to keep their little ones warm and safe.

That first pic I posted of black 'duck' may not be a duck but it isnt' a swan either. It's most likely a black goose .. or could be a long necked duck. Black swans also has red beak but the neck is thinner and quite a bit longer with a prominent curve on top. I don't know if you've heard of long-necked ducks. They're especially common in South and Central Asia. When I was a teenager, we had a pair of long-necked ducks ... the place we purchased it from said "ducks with long necks" not geese and certainly not swans.

The traditional distinguishing features are supposed to be ducks having short thick necks and thick beaks. But apparently these water birds have as wide a variety in breeds as household pets like dogs, cats and rabbits.
