Title: Drinking camel urine?? Disgraceful Hadith!
Post by: Ruhi_Rose on April 28, 2007, 03:00:03 am
Anas reported:  "Eight men of the tribe of 'Ukl came to Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and swore allegiance to him on Islam, but found the climate of that land uncogenial to their health and thus they became sick, and they made complaint of that to Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him), and he said: Why don't you go to (the fold) of our camels along with our shepherd, and make use of their milk and urine. They said: Yes. They set out and drank their (camels') milk and urine and regained their health...."

I was left aghast and stupified to read such a false & lying hadith.  I recall, M. Asadi had also commented on it in his article "Hadith Conspiracy."  Any idea why Bukhari and his followers wrote this filthy little tale?

Secondly, it turns even more disgusting to know how the various so-called "ulemas" try to defend this hadith by saying that it was the cornerstone of a future medical invention.  They link it with the modern-day discovery of horse urine containing Estrogen used in the treatment of menopausal and premenopausal women.  However, procurement of medical components from horse urine at present is conducted in a very different way, right?

Thirdly, what takes the cake is that this crazy hadith is stamped by the clerics as "authentic."

Any thoughts folks?

 salamem

Yeah, I totally agree with you, Sis Ruhi.  Asadi also pointed out how disgusting this hadith is.  And as you stated, the idea becomes even more gross when the clergy try to defend this nonsense.

Well, first of all, let's make it absolutely clear that our Prophet (peace, love and blessings be upon him) was a person with intelligence, deep insight and thoroughly civilized.  He NEVER said such a thing.

Now let's look at these lying words of the clergy which they present as a 'hadith.'  The urine of all living beings is filthy and toxic with a big possibility of carrying numerous bacteria and deadly germs particularly in cases of kidney or urinary infections.  This deplorable hadith is demonstrating a purely pagan tradition that was rife during pre-Islamic Arabia.  If you research the history of paganism, you'll find that they always had a trend for idolizing the excrement of living beings.  This trend is still found in India where the hindus drink the urine of cow as their religious tradition.  Thus, they go about propagating cow urine as a health drink.  Absolutely atrocious!!  The hadith about camel urine was clearly written with the same mindset and a desire to revive the ancient practices of pre-Islamic Arabia.

Moreover, again, we also see reflections of the Old and New Testaments in this hadith as we do see in most hadith narrations.  After all, it is a well known fact that the writers of all hadith collections were readers of the Torah and Bible, and not the Quraan.  Hence, they borrowed lots of practices mentioned in the Old and New Testaments on to the Hadith.  For example, check the following quotes from the altered versions of the Bible.

"If you believe in me, you will never thirst... Rivers of living water shall flow from your bellies.." - Jesus (in John 7:38)

"Drink water from thy own cistern" (Proverb 5-15).

Coming on to the next point, those "ulemas" who try to justify this hadith by linking it to modern-day study of horse urine are surely talking through their hats and thus, they aren't even aware of the absurdity of their analogy.  It's true that according to modern findings, horse urine contains Estrogen (the female hormone often used for treating menopausal women).   However, these highly ignorant 'ulemas' need to be reminded of some important aspects regarding this issue.  The Estrogen acquired from horse urine is NOT supposed to be drunk raw.  Instead, it's made to go through numerous laboratory processes.  The substance Estrogen is segregated from the waste matter, processed and refined still further and then given to people who require it in microscopic quantities either in the form of capsules, caplets, patches or herbal medication.  Just because the urine of horses are found to contain Estrogen, that does NOT mean one should fill a cup with raw horse urine as it comes from the animal's bladder for drinking purposes.  That's obnoxius!

Therefore, whoever has written this hadith about drinking camel urine is ignorant and manipulative.  He should have been punished for writing such a lie and attributing it to the Prophet (pbuh).

lol - this is interesting.  first, i'm glad zeynab you've mentioned that this is not from the Prophet (pbuh) but a tale from bukhari.  second, a very good point about the laboratory processing of horse urine.  of course it's not supposed to be taken raw  :-[  but why at all do the 'ulemas' try to accept & explain this sickening hadith by comparing it with modern findings of the components of horse urine?  what has that got to do with this?  horse urine is said to contain estrogen.  bukhari says that a group of men were told to drink camel urine.  estrogen is a female hormone.  men don't need estrogen.  OMG !  this hadith is crazy.  mr. bukhari must have been high when he wrote it.

thanks for all the useful feedback.  these so-called "scholars" link the camel urine hadith with horse urine findings by insinuating that it was some kind of foreknowledge of the future.  Because as u would know, hadith keeps portraying the Prophet (pbuh) as predicting the future.  This is another huge contradiction of hadith compared to the Quran.  The Quran says in several Surahs that the Prophet does not know the secrets of the unseen, meaning he (pbuh) has no knowledge of future events.  The Prophet himself also insisted on maintaining exactly what the Quran said.  The Prophet (pbuh) never claimed his expertise as a doctor or a fortune teller or a scientist etc.  The gift that Allah conferred on him was greater than all these.  He (pbuh) was chosen to deliver the Divine Message and this gift & responsibility had nothing to do with future predictions or curing diseases.

btw, I suppose the "scholars" don't know about the male hormone.  otherwise they would have woven an additional tale that camel urine contains testosterone - lol  ;D

maybe bukhari is hinting upon hospitality.  so next time when a guest comes to your house, you should ask - "what would you like to have, coffee, tea or pee?"   HysLaugh

I came across another bukhari narration of this disgraceful hadith on drinking camel urine.  It's actually the same hadith but written in slightly different words .... another proof of being a lie, when the same quote keeps floating in different words.

Sahih Al Bukhari - Volume 7, Book 71, Number 590:
Narrated Anas: “The climate of Medina did not suit some people, so the Prophet ordered them to follow his shepherd, i.e. his camels, and drink their milk and urine. So they followed the shepherd that is the camels and drank their milk and urine till their bodies became healthy. Then they killed the shepherd and drove away the camels. When the news reached the Prophet he sent some people in their pursuit. When they were brought, he cut their hands and feet and their eyes were branded with heated pieces of iron.”

Apart from the fact that this hadith is propagating an outrageous practice of drinking camel urine, it's also falsely & rudely mocking the Prophet (SAAW) by making him appear as a cruel person.  Of course, it goes without saying, the Prophet's real temperament was one of infinite kindness and tenderness.  Even during the conquest of Makkah when so many of his enemies who had ill-treated him, tortured him and killed many of his relatives and companions in the past were at his mercy, and yet the Prophet (SAAW) proclaimed general amnesty without punishing anyone even by hitting them with a tooth-prick.  The Prophet's enormous kindness especially toward prisoners and captives was well known.

THIS HADITH IS A DIRTY LIE!
