Title: Majority are often misguided - Verse 6:116
Post by: Heba E. Husseyn on October 07, 2017, 12:34:14 am

 BismEm

"If you obeyed most of those on earth they would mislead you far from Allah's way.   They follow naught but an opinion, and they do but guess."  (6:116) Al-An'am.

While majority is a show of strength because of its large numbers, it's not necessarily a show of correctness.  In fact, it often isn't.

In Verse 6:116 Allah Almighty mentions the risk of getting misguided by obeying the majority.  This alludes to the aspect of euphoria or the characteristic of frenzy that people often get whipped up into .. a process of blindly following their desires rather than choosing what's proper through rational thoughts.  E.g.  A particular style of dress that makes a person look half naked may become exceedingly popular in a society.  Or, lewd social practices may lure plenty of people and they would try to talk their way into it by justifying it.  In most cases, such misguided aspects of life turn very popular within the majority.  Around the world there will be many more who will be attracted to such ideas compared to those who will reject them.   It's in this regard that Allah warns believers that blind following of the majority concerning various practices of life can take them far away from the path of Allah and thus we need to be very, very careful.  Of course, as we see, with the load of bid'ah (interpolations) introduced in Faith, blind following of our jurists can also take us far away from the path of Allah.  This facet must also be included.

Alhumdulilah.

I would think this is also true about politics.  I mean, so many bad leaders and governments come to power and ruin their countries and the lives of the people.  Most such governments come to power by "popular" votes of the people.  The problem with people is they make heroes out of those who are not at all worth it.  A horde of people are often so enamored by these unworthy 'icons' that if some such leader is immoral, their sheepl followers will either ignore or condone their immorality .. and at some point won't hesitate to acquire similar immoralities themselves.

That is a very thoughtful observation brother.  I concur absolutely.   Similar mindset is also prevalent in the entertainment world, often known as the celebrity world in this mad earth in present times.

O yes.  The so-called entertainment world is even worse.

Alhumdulilah, Alhumdulilah.  Allah, The All-Knower, picks the points that are so accurate and spot-on concerning humans.

And you know what?  nowadays even westerners are aware of the truth of this aspect.  There's a sarcastic poster circulating in social media such as Pinterest and instagram that says "Be careful when you follow the masses.  Sometimes the "m" is silent."  lol.  It's a head-on recognition of the fact that the majority are misleaders.

May Allah, The Greatest, always keep us in the protection of His guidance. Ameen ya Allah.

A life without His guidance is the ultimate tragic failure.

Interesting quote.  You're right Sister Ruhi.  It's an acknowledgement, and a warning to beware of the majority.
