Title: Animals sensing epileptic seizures and natural disasters

Sixth sense in animals ..

In North America it has been reported that dogs are able to predict epileptic seizures in humans. This is a very interesting perception, now under further study.

According to recent television & newspaper reports, in Canada several people who have a member of their family suffering from epilepsy have said that their dogs have been able to predict epileptic seizures about an hour in advance. The dogs become agitated and restless, and start to bark for no apparent reason. It's a behavioral pattern that has been observed in similar situations with all dogs, regardless of their breed. It has also been observed that it's not just the service dogs with special training that are able to foresee the occurrence of such seizures, but untrained dogs in similar circumstances react in exactly the same manner. Many individuals suffering from epilepsy and living alone with their dogs have observed the same. They have all said that the 'warnings' given by their pets have always been amazingly correct.

Experts and analysts are conducting detailed research on this issue. They are currently studying the natural phenomena of a dog's brain and how it's wired. Although they haven't yet categorically advised people suffering from epilepsy to keep dogs specifically for this purpose, they have admitted that there is a clear link between a pet's mind and the prediction of an epileptic seizure. They have also stated that it is not possible to train a dog to predict such happenings. It is simply a natural instinct within them.

It makes one wonder ... there could be many other animals with similar instincts. And not just this, but many animals including dogs might be having the instinct to sense other natural occurrences. It seems that humans know so little about the minds and feelings of animals yet.

Another clear evidence of the sixth sense in animals (for predicting earthquakes & tidal waves) was during the tsanumi of December 26, 2004 that killed hundreds of thousands of people in South-East Asia.   Medics, volunteers, journalists, residents etc. all observed and reported that while they saw countless human bodies scattered all over the affected areas, there were no carcasses of wild animals living on land to be seen inspite of the fact that the tsunami hit regions are very rich in wild life. Apparently these animals had sensed the approaching danger and fled to higher grounds.

And only Allah knows best.
