Title: Avoid generalizations

In my humble opinion it's important today for us not to generalize matters that were clearly meant only for the Prophet  proem and his then followers.

For instance, let's look at verse 8:20

"O ye who believe! Obey Allah and His messenger, and turn not away from him when ye hear (him speak)."

This above verse is very clearly and directly addressed to those people living in the Prophet's time.  Thus they're being told the importance of obedience to the Prophet   proem

The "scholars" of today must not use such a verse to blame those who don't agree with them.  I thought of mentioning this point as I've observed the imams & ulemas intentionally using this argument for their own benefit.

There are many verses in the Quran that are dictates and laws for all times to come, and also, there are verses that are for specific people and times.  It's really important to make this distinction for a correct interpretation.

Aw kat!  i couldn't agree more.  as zeynab and i were discussing the other day, how many time have we heard our "enlightened" imams and ulemas saying that the Quran says to obey knowledgable people, thus we must obey them.  other than misinterpreting the Quran, it's interesting to note how such people take just one aspect into account.  they're quick at assuming that they are the "knowledgeable ones" but are they really?

yep absolutely but the ummah won't realize this before judgement day!
