BismAllah ..

As we all know, in the English translation of the Qur'an, many verses contain first- person-plural-pronoun "We."  To quote just one of the many great verses as an example: "Verily We have brought them a Scripture which We expounded with knowledge, a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe." (7:52)

I've come across many people asking the question that why does Allah mention "We" instead of "I."

The answer to this question which I would like to share with everyone is, "We" in the Qur'an refers to the majestic status of Allah.  For example, when a monarch or a sovereign ruler gives a formal decree or addresses the nation, they always refer to themselves as "we."  This doesn't mean that there is more than one monarch in that nation or country, but it's simply the conventional style or etiquette of the English language.  This is also the style of conventional Arabic.

Thus, "We" in the Qur'an is symbolic of the One Highest Authority, that is, Allah Almighty.  The term "We" in the Noble Quran has NOTHING to do with plurality.

Yes, this an important clarification and a very good one.  I too have heard people asking this question a few times.  The purpose of the expression "We" or "Our" in the Quran is to highlight the supreme authority of Allah.

Many thanks for putting this up Sister Ruhi.  Indeed a very important aspect to explain.
