BismAllah Ar Rehm an Ar Raheem, and Assalam Alaykum.

Are you familiar with the Quranic terms 'Illiyin' and 'Sijjin?'

Please know that the deeds of every person on earth is being recorded and comprises of a written record.

The ill deeds of the disbelievers and the disobedient who took Faith as a joke in this world will be in a written record called Sijjin.

The good deeds of the believers, the righteous, will be in another written record known as Illiyin.

Therefore, strive for the mercy and forgivness of Allah (The Most High) to be granted the greatest favor and ultimate triumph of having our righteous deeds recorded & written in Illiyin.  InshAllah, ameen.

"Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin -
Ah! what will convey unto you what Sijjin is! -
A written record.
83:7-9

Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin -
Ah, what will convey unto you what 'Illiyin is! -
A written record,
Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Rab)."
83:18-21

Please read all 36 verses of this Surah, Chapter 83 of the Noble Quran to get a better understanding of the above quoted verses.

May Allah (The Most High) grant guidance to all those who seek it.  Ameen.

Alhumdulilah and Subhan'Allah, dear brother, for this superb reminder directly from the Noble Quran.  The records on Illiyin and Sijjin are certain truth.  It's sad how little most Muslims talk about it, instead they are all the time engrossed reading the punishments constructed in the tales of Hadith.

Praise be to Allah Almighty, great read and reminder.  Thanks brother TS.  And yes sister Heba.  I too feel so sad that we Muslims are so distracted from all these very important facts and reminders which Allah has put in the Quran in preference to the stories & jokes written by the imams.  Most of them aren't even aware how much time they waste being distracted by the man-written tales.  And there's so much to study, reflect and understand in the Noble Quran.  But the 'Muslims' have no time because of their preoccupations with their lives, and they include only the Hadith in their lives.

Alhumdulilah and ameen.  These direct Quranic reminders are of utmost importance.  Even we, Quran-only followers, we read and then sometimes forget the details.  Constant reminders straight from the Noble Quran on a daily basis should be mandatory.

Thank u brother pt.  Allah (The Most High) bless u.

Sisters CAt and Zeynab,, agree 100% on how unfortunate it is that the mainstream (which means the majority of Muslims) are only focused on the story-tellers' retributions mentioned in the Hadith without any evidences from the Quran, while real true Quranic reminders like this one, go unnoticed by most of our sisters and brothers.

just adding more verses bro Smiley

And every man's augury have We fastened to his own neck, and We shall bring forth for him on the Day of Resurrection a book which he will find wide open.17:13

(And it will be said unto him): Read thy Book. Thy soul sufficeth as reckoner against thee this day.17:15

On the day when We shall summon all men with their record, whoso is given his book in his right hand - such will read their book and they will not be wronged a shred.17:71

And the Book is placed, and thou seest the guilty fearful of that which is therein, and they say: What kind of a Book is this that leaveth not a small thing nor a great thing but hath counted it! And they find all that they did confronting them, and thy Lord wrongeth no-one.18:49

And thou wilt see each nation crouching, each nation summoned to its record. (And it will be said unto them): This day ye are requited what ye used to do.45:28

This Our Book pronounceth against you with truth. Lo! We have caused (all) that ye did to be recorded.45:29

jazak Allah khair bro thanks for the most important reminder none actually cares about it There’s only one question running through everyone’s mind, what will be their eternal abode At first, it says that they, in vain, think that there is no Record of account given in the Hereafter but It can be understood, from the many verses of Quran Allah mentions these books in several places and warn us , that the deeds of all Mankind are inscribed, in personal deeds book, so that none will have any excuse for their deeds and words On the day of judgement our routine attitude will not be effective like it's work here in earthly life . NO i didn't  mean that, i didn't said that. Every individual will be judged according to recorded deeds, good and evil.

NOTE for readers :  including Arguing against divine book Too all words are recorded SO always hold your tongue while talking about Quran

Yes, right.  Allah has warned us through many verses as quoted.  This means the record of the believers as well as the disbelievers are being recorded every minute, every second.  Allah also informs us about the 2 different titles given to the records of the believers and the disbelievers.  Everyone's recorded book will be a witness against them or in support of them.

At the same time the original existence of the Noble Quran will also be a witness against those who did not take the trouble to reach out to study it.  They will have no excuse to say that "we did not know about the Guidance" or "we had no information about the Guidance."  The truth is that the Guidance is in the midst of us but unfortunately many folks don't bother to reach out to it.

Also, Allah has told humankind that with Him there will be different grades of reward and punishment.  This makes matters still clearer.   There are some believers who have more good deeds than other believers.  There are also some disbelievers who have more ill deeds than other disbelievers.  Therefore a believer's reward will have different degrees and an evil doer's violations will also have various degrees.   Alhumdulilah, that's because the justice of Allah is most perfect and it wrongs no one.

"There are degrees (of grace and reprobation) with Allah, and Allah is Seer of what they do."  (3:163).

Very correct.  In fact one must also remember that not just one's speech and deeds, but Allah also knows about our intentions.  If a person harbors bad intention of any kind, then even if he or she does not carry out that intention for some reason, the people will not know about it but Allah knows it and that person will be answerable for that bad intent unless they sincerely repent.

i have one question here reagrding  verse 36:12 help me to understand

Lo! We it is Who bring the dead to life. We record that which they send before (them, and their footprints. And all things We have kept in a clear Register 36:12

explaining the part of the verse which is translated as “which they send before and that which they leave behind”, it is stated that whatever one does, whether evil or good, is recorded. On the other hand, it is emphasized that one’s book of deeds is not closed when he dies but either good deeds or evil deeds continue to be recorded in it on condition that he left good works behind such as a service building mosque, orphan house,Plant A Tree.,help in educating a child any source for good cause which people can benefit from or on condition that he left behind evil works such as, some cruel and unfair system like that establish laws which cause people to suffer or stray away from the way of Allah, as long as these works (both good and evil) continue to exist ???

1.I mean does it refer to continued existence of deeds after death ???

2.Does it mean that good deeds continue to be added to that person's account even after he/she is dead?  so as bad deeds too ??

That's an excellent and a very thought provoking question, sister Muslima.  MashAllah.

"Lo! We it is Who bring the dead to life. We record that which they send before (them, and their footprints. And all things We have kept in a clear Register."  (36:12)

In my opinion, yes it does mean that along with a person's deeds during their lifetime, the consequences or affects of their deeds on the society, their family and descendents will also continue being recorded which will either contribute or tarnish their final Report on the Day of Resurrection, depending on what kind of influence their deeds had on others.  It's tightly linked to ones actions during lifetime.  People have a tendency of getting influenced by one another.  Obviously a good person's actions will leave positive imprints on the people whom that person interacted with during earthly life e.g. their parents, children, spouses, siblings, extended family, friends, neighbors etc.  An evil person will likely have a negative influence on some people around them, not all though.  Therefore, the after-affect of people's deeds continue to affect their record even after their death.   Also, if a person committed murder or robbery or any other crime, then the repercussions of such an act can cause a lot of suffering to many affected people even after the death of that criminal.  Hence, the continued suffering will continue to add to the sins of that criminal.  In the same way, the after-affects or sacrifices of a good person's actions will continue to add to their rewards after their death.

The commentary or tafsir of Maududi on this Verse seemed generally good.  I'm quoting it below.  You might like to read it.  It may help to understand Verse 36:12 better.

QUOTE
"This shows that three kinds of the entries are made in the conduct-book of men.

First, whatever a person does, good or bad is entered in the Divine Register.

Second, whatever impressions a man makes on the objects of his environment and on the limbs of his own body itself, become recorded, and all these impressions will at one time become so conspicuous that man's own voice will become audible and the whole history of his ideas and intentions and aims and objects and the pictures of all of his good and bad acts and deeds will appear before him.

Third, whatever influences he has left behind of his good and bad actions on his future generation, on his society and on mankind as a whole, will go on being recorded in his account as far as they reach and as long as they remain active and operative. The full record of the good and bad training given by him to his children, the Bard or evil that he has spread in the society, and its impact on mankind as a whole, will go on being maintained till the time that it goes on producing good or evil results in the world."

UNQUOTE

Thanks for this question, sister.  It surely makes this thread more complete and comprehensive.   Allah bless you.

Well perceived sister Muslima, sister Zeynab.   Indeed this is a great and thought provoking topic.  I have come across V.36:12 many times and the word "footprints" struck me as one's past deeds which I'm sure is correct.  But what I didn't ponder upon was the expression "We record that which they send before (them," ....  This apparently infers to the future consequences of ones deeds on individuals and the society which follows later.  I think the best example to learn about it is from the analogy of parents and children.  Sometimes when parents are bringing up their kids, they aren't focused on Faith orientation as a code of life for the future.  They think it will come automatically when the kids grow up.  But never happens because these kids weren't given the right foundation.  Their parents often realize their mistake when these children are adults, in their late teens or early twenties.  It's very difficult to construct an ideological foundation at that age, unless the children themselves turn toward guidance and reflect on their own .. something that's not too common.  Thus, a single blunder by parents can result in generations of disbelieving descendants.  While these descendants are basically responsible for their own souls, a fraction of the responsibility is carried on the shoulders of their first ancestors who didn't teach them what they should have.

Very concisely and articulately put sister Heba.  This point also needs to be discussed.  After all, the Noble Quran has made it clear that every soul bears its own responsibility and will be answerable for itself only.  At the same time the Noble Quran also states in V.16:25 "That they may bear their burdens undiminished on the Day of Resurrection, with somewhat of the burdens of those whom they mislead without knowledge. Ah! evil is that which they bear!"  This Verse connects with Verse 36:12, in that, it again refers that any person who is responsible of leading many others astray will be answerable for it.  However, sometimes such mistakes of misleading others happen inadvertently.  Like in the example of parents and children, when parents trust the future adulthood of their children and cannot imagine them disobeying the basic principles of Faith in later life, expecting them to learn on their own.  But they are disappointed when this doesn't happen.  The responsibility of such an oversight would be smaller compared to an intentional misguider.  And this again brings the concept of grace and reprobation having different degrees as elucidated in V.3:163.
