 BismEm

"(Self-)destroyed were the owners of the ditch
Of the fuel-fed fire,
When they sat by it,
And were themselves the witnesses of what they did to the believers.
They had naught against them save that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Owner of Praise,"
(Surah Al-Buruj, Verses 4-8).

Do these verses refer to the Battle of the Trench at Medinah?

No sis, obviously not to the Battle of the Trench because this Surah is a Makkan revelation prior to the Hijra.

It's considered to be a reference to a historical incident that took place in Yemen much before Islam, concerning the massacre of the Christians of Yemen by a Jewish king called Dhu Nawas.  There was a place in Yemen called Najran (I'm not sure if this name still exists).  In the olden times Yemen was under Jewish rule, at least for sometime.  When this battle took place (which is most likely the reference in verses 4-8), the Christian community of Najran were brutally massacred at the orders of this Jewish king.  When this happened, the Christian ruler of Abyssinia (with the title of "Negus" as the name of the dynasty) intervened to save the Yemeni Christians.  Apparently, he defeated and toppled the Jewish king because the rule of the Negus lasted in Yemen until the year of the War of the Elephant which took place on the year of the Prophet's (S) birth, that is, the 7th century.  As we know, reference of War of the Elephant is in Surah 105 (Al-Fil).  The Abyssinian ruler named Abraha who participated in the War of the Elephant advanced to destroy the Kaaba but Allah Almighty made him unsuccessful by protecting the Kaaba as mentioned in Surah Al-Fil.

Some interpreters are of the opinion that the words "owners of the ditch Of the fuel-fed fire," refers to Hellfire.  But we cannot be sure about that.  It's possible that a trench was dug in this battle too as a battlefield stratey.  But only Allah knows best.  We have no resource to confirm the details of the battle.

Oh!  Okay  Smiley   Thanks sis.  I never thought of this.  You're right.  I also forgot that this Surah is definitely a Makkan revelation and the Battle of the Trench took place much later in Medinah.

Its detailed history is given in wikipedia too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_community_of_Najran

However, this link contains some exaggerations for example Jews and Christians being expelled during the reign of Umar bin Khattab which lacks evidence and is unfounded.  Btw, Abu Huraira was most likely a Jew from this region before he converted.
