Happened to read this phrase: "Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad."

What the heck?  Isn't tomato a vegetable?

LOL.  Yeah it sounds stupid if not absurd.  That's because professional ideas can be quite crazy.  According to botany, it's a "fruit" even though it's used thoroughly as a veggie.   Botanically it's sometimes classified as a "berry" which probably comes from the look of cherry tomatoes that are small, round and pulpy.

Another story goes back to the 1800s when there was some kind of import tariff on vegetables.  To avoid this tariff many importers began declaring tomatoes as "fruits."   When this practice became rampant, the matter was taken to court and the Supreme court ruled that tomatoes must be defined as a vegetable because it's used in the manner of a veggie, not a fruit.

You'll be surprised to know that cucumber, beans, eggplants and bell pepper are also botanically classified as "fruits" though we take them as veggies, one hundred per cent.  Can anyone ever think of putting tomato pieces, beans or cucumbers in a fruits salad with a golden pound cake, custard, whipped cream with confectioner's sugar?   That would be both gross and ridiculous!

What the shit?  Really?  Didn't know of this absurdity.  I wonder on what basis botany separates fruits from veggies.

"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad."  This is something like, 'Knowledge is knowing Hadith is a forgery.  Wisdom is trashing it in the garbage'  Cheesy
