This is worth reading.   The dark brown caramel color in coke is made by using the chemical ammonia and making it react with sugar.  That's been observed to produce cancer in rats and mice.  Thus, it poses a risk to humans as well.  Certain other food colors like red or yellow are also questionable for health.  This article is useful.

Wow .. this makes me quite uneasy.  There are so many foods on the grocery store shelves and subsequently in the homes of consumers that contain caramel with ammonia + sulfite, red 40 and yellow 5 food colors.  Countless types of foods that contain them, many of which are loved by kids.  Dark cola drinks aren't the only thing.  How much can one avoid living in this damned 21st century where use of natural or organic ingredients has almost vanished completely.

Well, let me go and check my kitchen cupboards.  Anything containing these risky ingredients which aren't too necessary to keep, I'll simply trash them  Cheesy

Btw, caramel coloring with chemicals as said to be risky is also used in soya sauce and other brown sauces used for making various meat dishes.

Very informative.  I don't like coke but tons of folks especially kids and teenagers gobble it down like water everyday.

What bothers me is the yellow food dye.  Good idea checking the kitchen cupboards and fridge sister Heba.  But so many items from the stores contain yellow food color .....  Huh
