Today was another one of those days when I had a long argument with a combative Hadithist who once again exposed his lack of Faith and loyalty toward Allah in preference to his love for the imams and so-called scholars.  The question he put to me was, I quote word by word:

"If you follow only the Quran, then why do you say shahada ? It doesn't say the shahada in the Quran.  Not does it say to testify it.  Also, how did you learn the method of salat?  And, how did you know about the Prophet's character and about his inner day to day life if not from Hadith?"

My response:

Let's concentrate on the contents of the shahadah and its meaning.

Shahadah conveys the information that there is no god except Allah, He has no partner nor partners, and Muhammed is the final messenger and the slave of Allah. Now, isn't this information exactly in conformity with the contents of the Noble Quran?  The simple answer is, Yes it is. It makes up the essence of Allah's Final Message.  Refusing the shahadah would amount to rejecting the principles, values and the dictates of the Noble Quran altogether.

Allah has given each one of us a degree of common sense and He expects us to use it. Allah has categorically stated many times in His Final Message that He is ONE and He has NO partners. He has also repeatedly stated that to attribute partners to Him is a serious and unforgivable sin, if the person dies in that state of disbelief. Allah has also plainly asserted in the Quran that Muhammed (sw) is the "seal of the prophets" and that he is only a human being and a slave of Allah. Thus, keeping in mind all these facts, if I draft a supplication or assertion worded as: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, HE has no partner nor partners, and I bear witness that Muhammed is the slave and final messenger of Allah." Now, does Allah disallow us to speak thus even though this aspect is exactly what HE has conveyed to us in the Quran, simply because it is in our own words? Not at all. We are allowed to use our own words in connection with worship. The important thing is, it must be 100% compatible with Quranic principles.

Coming to the second part of the question: How do I know about the character of the Prophet (sw) without hadith? Let me tell the Hadithers, the Noble Quran says everything about the Prophet's (sw) character that we need to know. The Quran refers to the Prophet as having a "tremendous nature." Against the mockery of the Prophet's enemies, Allah assures him that he is not a "madman" nor the "demented" and that the Prophet's reward in the Hereafter is unfailing. Refer to Surah Al-Qalam. The Quran assures the Prophet (sw) of his future fame (Surah Kausar and Surah Al-Inshirah). Allah tells us in Surah Al-Ahzab that He and His angels shower blessings on the Prophet (sw) and also commands us to ask Allah for blessings on His final messenger.  Why does Allah mention that?  Because Allah has confirmed in Quran that the Prophet's character is special.  And as we keep reading the Quran, there are many other Surahs that convey to us how exemplary the Prophet's character was as asserted by Allah Himself. All such Quranic information on the Prophet (sw) are solid evidences of the Prophet's greatness.  Isn't all this ample, important and authentic information we need to know about the Prophet's unique and special character??  Do we still need to crave after those irrelevant and superficial man-written guesswork of Hadith such as using the miswaak, or the length of the beard or the kind of shoes the Prophet wore etc. etc.?  Apart from being unreliable or false information, the Hadith gossips on the Prophet (sw) are useless stuff that have no bearing with guidance. Those who are interested in such gossips in preference to the truth of the Quran, only expose their own weak faith and disloyalty to Allah in preference to their imams and auliyas. They will have to answer to Allah. I fear Allah too much to stray in that manner after Allah has told me not to follow hearsay. And Allah has also warned us to follow only HIS path (i.e. the Quran) and nothing else lest we part from His path.

“And (He commandeth you, saying) : This is My straight path, so follow it Follow not other ways, lest ye be parted from His way: This hath He ordained for you, that ye may ward off (evil)” (6:153) Noble Quran.
If we try to seek information from outside sources other than the Quran, it will never be reliable and is bound to lead to gossips. And as I've myself read, many Hadith narrations about the Prophet (sw) are extremely offensive, gossipy and rude .. and of course these are unauthentic. That's why it shocks me why the so-called scholars don't trash that sort of Ahadith.

Please note:  Hadith does not "explain" the Prophet's character, rather Hadith defames the Prophet's character.

Ya Allah, thank YOU so much for giving us the insight to realize the importance of following ONLY Your Final Message. I seek refuge in YOU from the misguidance of the world.

"If you obeyed most of those on earth they would mislead you far from Allah's way." [Noble Quran 6:116]

"O you who believe! Be careful of your duty to Allah, and be with the truthful." [Noble Quran 9:119]

Fortunatley our faith is not weak like those of the Hadithers, so we don't need false information from crooks like Bukhari.  We have the information directly from Allah. He has told us whatever He considers we need to know.  Whatever He has not mentioned in His Final Message is of no relevance so it doesn't concern us.   As simple as that.

May Allah guide the Hadithers, these poor misguided souls, before it's too late as it was with Pharaoh and his followers.

More on Shahadah.

 weldem    Thumbsup Thumbsup

Mashallah sister zeynab brilliant answer

let me ask u ?? who's that top class idiot ,stupid ???

It doesn't say the shahada in the Quran. Not does it say to testify it ... who said that ?? Angry

What is shahadah ? Where from Shahadah come  ??  u hadithist think its's from ur own ? or from ur imam's OR hadith ?? HOLD ON !!!!

أشهد أن لا إله إلاَّ الله و أشهد أن محمد رسول الله

Ash Hadu an la ilaha illalahu

I bear witness that there is no God  but Allah

wa ash hadu anna muhammadan-rasulullah

and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah

Another version reads !!

 muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu

Muhammad is a servant and a messenger (of Allah )

First part of shahadah !!
Shahida Allahu annahu la ilaha illa huwa waalmala-ikatu waoloo alAAilmi qa-iman bialqisti la ilaha illa huwa alAAazeezu alhakeemu
Allah (Himself) is Witness that there is no Allah save Him. And the angels and the men of learning (too are witness). Maintaining His creation in justice, there is no Allah save Him the Almighty, the Wise. 3:18
There is no God but He (Arabic: La illa ha illa hu) That is the witness of Allah  His angels, and those endued with knowledge, standing firm on justice. There is no God but He, the Exalted in Power, the Wise

Second part of shahadah also fromThe Quran ...
wa ash hadu anna muhammadan-rasulullah
and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of  Allah

Muhammad is not the father of any man among you, but he is the messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets; and Allah is ever Aware of all things .33:40

the above, claiming a shahadah (testimony) in the  manner (There is no diety but God. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah - Arabic: La illaha illala muhammadan rasullallah) is perfectly acceptable in that the testimony is absolutely true from a Quran's perspective .
How shall Allah guide a people who disbelieved after their belief and (after) they bore witness that the messenger is true and after clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty) had come unto them. And Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.3:86
borne witness (Arabic: wa-shahidu) that the Messenger was true .

When the hypocrites come unto thee (O Muhammad), they say: We bear witness that thou art indeed Allah's messenger. And Allah knoweth that thou art indeed His messenger, and Allah beareth witness that the hypocrites indeed are speaking falsely. 63:1

So how can anyone worship Allah as the only God, but not accept Prophet Muhammad who taught us how to worship Him, and the Quran that was His message to mankind?

The second part of the shahadah deals with our understanding of the status of Prophet Muhammad ,second part of shahadah is very important if u are true believer of Allah and his messenger  . In order for a person to be Muslim, they must accept the second shahadah along with the first shahadah. A person cannot be Muslim if they only believe in the oneness of Allah, but do not accept that Muhammad was the Messenger of Allah. When a person testifies that Muhammad was also Allah’s messenger, they are also accepting the message he came with, that being the proof that u are not the Rejectors of prophet muhammad then by heart u must properly apply this love for the last Prophet (pbuh) is to properly implement the testimony wa ash hadu anna muhammadan-rasulullah.Indeed, one cannot just say he/she loves the Prophet (pbuh) while his/her actions and 'Aqeedah are fundamentally against what the Prophet (pbuh) brought the Quran and the authentic Quranic Sunnah .Hence, the first step in the process of developing this love is to acknowledge that the Prophet (pbuh) has a claim over the believers.

Allah has said in the Quran !!

The Prophet is closer to the believers than their selves, 33:6

without second part of sahadah u can't claim for it...

Now the second version !!

2:   "muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu".

we testify that Muhammad is Allah's servant and His messenger.
The Messiah will never scorn to be a slave unto Allah, nor will the favoured angels. Whoso scorneth His service and is proud, all such will He assemble unto Him 4:172

The Arabic term for slave is 'Abd'.... And there are several places in the Quran where Allah Almighty  has honored and called not only Prophet Muhmammad  (pbuh) as His slave, but has also honored almost all the Prophets of Allah by calling them His slaves! To be called a slave of the Merciful is indeed an honor and none of the creation of Allah who sincerely believe in Him, ever disdain being called as His slaves. Those among mankind and jinns, who disdain to be called the slaves of the Merciful and are arrogant, Allah has warned that they will have a severe accounting in His Court on an Inevitable Day!

Allah has sent several men to mankind to remind them of their duty towards Him. Muslims believe that all of these men were prophets. These prophets of Allah include Adam, Noah, Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob, Jonah, Moses, Joseph, Jesus, and Muhammad, peace be upon them all. However, some of these prophets actually came with a message (book) from Allah for mankind,

Indeed, the noble Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is both, a slave-servant of Allah,Prophet  Muhammad  brought final book as well as the Last and Final Messenger of Allah .
And if ye are in doubt concerning that which We reveal unto Our slave (Muhammad), then produce a surah of the like thereof, and call your witness beside Allah if ye are truthful.2:23

And know that whatever ye take as spoils of war, lo! a fifth thereof is for Allah, and for the messenger and for the kinsman (who hath need) and orphans and the needy and the wayfarer, if ye believe in Allah and that which We revealed unto Our slave on the Day of Discrimination, the day when the two armies met. And Allah is Able to do all things. 8:41
Praise be to Allah Who hath revealed the Scripture unto His slave, and hath not placed therein any crookedness, 18:1
Glorified be He Who carried His servant by night from the Inviolable Place of Worship to the Far distant place of worship the neighbourhood whereof We have blessed, that We might show him of Our tokens! Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Seer. 17:1
Blessed is He Who hath revealed unto His slave the Criterion (of right and wrong), that he may be a warner to the peoples.25:1
Not only has Allah honored and called Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) His slave-servant;the Merciful has called almost all the Prophets His slaves in His Noble Quran.

For Prophets Ibrahim, and Ishaq and Yaqob (pbuh) Our slave-servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
And make mention of Our bondmen, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, men of parts and vision. 38:45

Prophet Isa/jesus (pbuh)

He spake: Lo! I am the slave of Allah. He hath given me the Scripture and hath appointed me a Prophet 19:30
He is nothing but a slave on whom We bestowed favour, and We made him a pattern for the Children of Israel 43:59
[Prophet Nuh (pbuh)
They denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decision 54:3
the People of Noah rejected (their apostle): they rejected Our slave- servant
(They were) the seed of those whom We carried (in the ship) along with Noah. Lo! he was a grateful slave.17:3
Prophet Dauwd (pbuh)Our slave-servant
Bear with what they say, and remember Our bondman David, lord of might, Lo! he was ever turning in repentance (toward Allah).38:17
Prophet Sulaiman/solomon  a slave-servant
And We bestowed on David, Solomon. How excellent a slave! Lo! he was ever turning in repentance (toward Allah).38:30
SO IF WE BEAR WITNESS,.IT is  from Quran ...
we testify that Muhammad is Allah's servant and His messenger
yes we only testify Allah and his all messngers and the last final messanger. Why ??
O Prophet! Lo! We have sent thee as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner.33:45
Lo! We have sent thee (O Muhammad) as a witness and a bearer of good tidings and a warner 48:8
That ye (mankind) may believe in Allah and His messenger, and may honour Him, and may revere Him, and may glorify Him at early dawn and at the close of day. 48:9
And (bethink you of) the day when We raise in every nation a witness against them of their own folk, and We bring thee (Muhammad) as a witness against these. And We reveal the Scripture unto thee as an exposition of all things, and a guidance and a mercy and good tidings for those who have surrendered (to Allah). 16:89

SO We recite shahadah from Quran because we are not the rejector or prophet Muhammad (pbuh),... we are rejector of evil literature ,the saints the imams .we don't worship imams who wrote false literature..we don't recite men written shahadah !! we bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah because he will be the witness on day of judgement  yes we bear witness the He is servent of Allah  who deliver the complete true final message of Allah , He is the last final prophet ,seal on prophethood

our witness as per Quran ...Alhamdulillah We are not waitng for second coming of jesus.(pbuh)..
Say (O Muhammad): What thing is of most weight in testimony? Say: Allah is Witness between me and you. And this Qur'an hath been inspired in me, that I may warn therewith you and whomsoever it may reach. Do ye in sooth bear witness that there are gods beside Allah? Say: I bear no such witness. Say: He is only One Allah. Lo! I am innocent of that which ye associate (with Him).6:19
such a testimony as recited tis an absolute requirement in deen/religion in order to become a True believer !!
اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ
Allah! There is no Allah save Him. In Allah, therefore, let believers put their trust.64:13
All prophets and messengers of Allah preached the same message of Islam and took the testimony of 'One God'.
Truefaith is a matter of inner belief and can only be manifested outwardly by practice based on one's own volition and not forced or to be seen by others. .In the end only God knows the true condition of one's faith.

 Prophet's character in Quran !!![/

The Idea is, to put in our hearts, the Prophet Muhammad's (pbuh) morals & habits so that we may love him more & more & be motivated to follow his habits & Sunnah ( or traditions & life-example)is Only come from Quran NOT from the false hadith literature

And lo! thou art of a tremendous nature. 68:4
This sublime morality and exalted standard of the Prophet's character is  supported by  verses of the Quran.
Laqad kana lakum fee rasooli Allahi oswatun hasanatun liman kana yarjoo Allaha waalyawma al-akhira wathakara Allaha katheeran
Verily in the messenger of Allah ye have a good example for him who looketh unto Allah and the Last Day, and remembereth Allah much.33:21

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)) unrelenting commitment to worship the One true God of the entire Universe is clearly expounded by the Quran. In a very telling verse, we even note the necessity of Divine intervention to moderate the Prophet's intensity of worship and a party of those with him
Lo! thy Lord knoweth how thou keepest vigil sometimes nearly two-thirds of the night, or (sometimes) half or a third thereof, as do a party of those with thee. Allah measureth the night and the day. He knoweth that ye count it not, and turneth unto you in mercy. Recite, then, of the Qur'an that which is easy for you. He knoweth that there are sick folk among you, while others travel in the land in search of Allah's bounty, and others (still) are fighting for the cause of Allah. So recite of it that which is easy (for you), and establish worship and pay the poor-due, and (so) lend unto Allah a goodly loan. Whatsoever good ye send before you for your souls, ye will find it with Allah, better and greater in the recompense. And seek forgiveness of Allah. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. 73:20
The Prophet's soft and kind heart is powerfully and descriptively captured by the following verses of the Quran
There hath come unto you a messenger, (one) of yourselves, unto whom aught that ye are overburdened is grievous, full of concern for you, for the believers full of pity, merciful.9:128
And let not their speech grieve thee (O Muhammad). Lo! power belongeth wholly to Allah. He is the Hearer, the Knower 10:65
And grieve thou not for them, nor be in distress because of what they plot (against thee).27:70

Lo! thou (O Muhammad) guidest not whom thou lovest, but Allah guideth whom He will. And He is Best Aware of those who walk aright.28:56

At times the Prophet's grief was so intense that it weighted heavy on his own health.
Yet it may be, if they believe not in this statement, that thou (Muhammad) wilt torment thy soul with grief over their footsteps18:6

And lo! thou art of a tremendous nature. 68:4

Lo! that would cause annoyance to the Prophet, and he would be shy of (asking) you (to go); but Allah is not shy of the truth.33:53

Allah Himself paints a very consistent and positive picture of the Prophet's character. The final Prophet of Allah  was indeed a mighty personality which is clearly evidenced through the Quran. No other secondary source  which is based on hearsay should ever be allowed to compromise that exquisite indelible character.

That's all believer need To know about prophet ??? What else ...???

But the mock those who claims their love for prophet they enjoy this disrespectful literature like munafiqeen ,they actually worship their imams ,their saints.... Angry

!!complete verse  manners for believer of being his guest (btw these visiting manners are obliged to use also in todays lives )

O Ye who believe! Enter not the dwellings of the Prophet for a meal without waiting for the proper time, unless permission be granted you. But if ye are invited, enter, and, when your meal is ended, then disperse. Linger not for conversation. Lo! that would cause annoyance to the Prophet, and he would be shy of (asking) you (to go); but Allah is not shy of the truth. And when ye ask of them (the wives of the Prophet) anything, ask it of them from behind a curtain. That is purer for your hearts and for their hearts. And it is not for you to cause annoyance to the messenger of Allah, nor that ye should ever marry his wives after him. Lo! that in Allah's sight would be an enormity.33:53

As-salaam Alaikum dear sister Muslima! Smiley  What a dynamic piece you have written.  MashAllah, SubhanAllah.  Your approach to constructing this response is brilliant.  What better way can there be to show to the deniers all those verses of the Noble Quran that contain the terms "witness" and "slave / servant" ?  Therefore, the confirmations & assertions in the words of Allah Himself is the foundation of the Shahdah and thus we recite the Shahadah.

Indeed this Hadither was a very stupid man.  He is a Facebook user.  I had put up a Hadith statistics from a Google group which rightly showed 98% of the Hadiths to be false.   That's when the Hadither got mad and asked his silly question.

I thank you again for this beautiful and very professional write-up, my sister.  And InshAllah, I'll save it along with my work for future references.

Allah bless you for your perfect understanding of His Final Message and your hardwork by studying it so thoroughly.

SubhanAllah, both these posts on the same topic are beautifully put dear sisters.  You're right sister Zeynab .. people who ask such questions prove themselves how little they know of the Quran.   Analysis of both posts are spot on analysis. Sister Muslima's Quranic inferences to prove the points under discussion are absolutely superb .. and like sister Zeynab said, very professional.  I must save this thread because such questions are quite common with Hadithers.  If I'm ever confronted with any of them in future, I will also discuss it in the light of this information, InshAllah.   Thank you sisters.    Wa qul Rabbi zidni aaliman

This thread reflects magnificent truth which is vital to know and yet our poor "scholars" have not been able to grasp it because they're so enamored with the sources that distract them.  Yes, I too need to save the contents of this thread.  Thanks a billion sisters Muslima and Zeynab.
