According to statistics, in 2002 one woman was raped every 54 minutes in the "world's largest democracy."  In 2011 that rose to one woman being raped every 20 minutes with scores of human rights organizations mentioning India as one of the world's most dangerous places for women.  But the news given little or no coverage by the international media.  Total rape statistics for the year 2011 in the "world's largest democracy" was 23,582 with 450 in the capital, New Delhi, commonly known as the rape-capital of South Asia.   In 2012, over  500 cases have so far been reported in New Delhi alone.  The total for 2012 throughout the country is expected to be considerably higher than 2011. As the country "progresses," rape progresses too with government officials and politicians only talking about dealing with this horrific problem but taking no practical steps to fight it whatsoever.  To read the break-up of the statistics 2011 state-wise, visit the the site Indian Sawaal.

The most recent gang-rape case in New Delhi, just a few days ago, has been of a 23-year-old Indian student traveling in a luxury bus with her male friend.  The girl was brutally gang-raped by 7 men high on alcohol and then both she and her friend were beaten savagely and thrown off the moving bus.  The huge demonstrations and loud protests by the people coming out on the streets of Delhi almost daily since the incident took place have fallen on deaf ears.  Many of the demonstrators have been beaten by the police for protesting just as savagely as the rape victim was by the rapists.

There's another bit of information  that needs to be disclosed.  Since the US occupation of Afghanistan, that country has become the second rape-capital of the region alongside India.  Some outlets are circulating the following picture captioned as the "23-year-old Indian gang rape victim."  But that Indian girl is still in a semi comatose condition and her photos have not yet been released anywhere.  This picture is of a young Afghan girl which appeared  earlier in the media.  She was similarly gang raped by US marines in Afghanistan .. just one out of many like the 23-year-old Indian girl being one out of several thousands in India.

Thanks for putting this up sister Ruhi.  Rape is becoming a very serious problem in India and worst of all, it's being frantically concealed by the Indian and mainstream media.

Recently it was learned that India's latest rape victim, a 23-year-old physiotherapy student, residing in the Indian capital of Delhi succumbed to her severe injuries inflicted by the rapists & murderers.  I posted this news on my Facebook timeline and it was interesting to read the response of a Facebook member who lives in occupied Kashmir and has recently lost his own sister at the hands of the occupying Indian forces.

Let me tell u some more facts about India:-  20 men accused of rape ran in previous elections in India.  Indian former women president accepted mercy plea of 5 men including the man who raped 5 year old girl.  All were proven guilty of murder and rape but president pardoned them.  In Gujrat 30% law makers are rape accused.   In my kashmir Indian forces mass-raped 53 women of  'konan poshpora' overnight irrespective of age, including 80 year old woman.  In kashmir 1 girl and 1 pregnant woman of Shopian village were gang raped then killed and who so ever protested against these heinous crimes were also killed.  After this incident in delhi 18 more rapes were reported.  5 rapes were reported from same delhi where people are protesting.  It is not common people who are protesting, though few young students.  In such a densely populated city if common people participate in protests it could go to hundreds of thousands and  Infact There should have been all India movement, cry, outrage which are the real real symptoms of emotional outburst rather than candle light rituals.  (i am not saying they should have indulged in extreme ways,  i am trying to say what is the natural response of humans when they are fed up or deeply hurt inside).  Recently same Incident happen also in Meghalaya, where a girl was gang-raped she didn't got coverage,i  think she must have been non-Brahmin.  India is no1 in human traficking and prostitution.  In delhi alone 635 rapes were reported in year 2012., these are police figures or records of National crime record Bureau. In reality some woman don't report out of fear and Statistics could be very shamefully higher than this.  The Nirbhaya got coverage this made it sensitive issue.  otherwise in Manipur or kashmir there are more emotional cases than this. Morality can't have double standards, what is wrong in delhi is wrong in kashmir too. Only some activists are organising sincere protests. Rest are organised by Bhagat Singh kranti Sena, ABVP,NSUI,and some led by former army Chief General v.k singh.  This Singh has never filed any case against or punished any sepoy for his crimes in Kashmir and North east regions and is a Staunch supporter of AFSPA..the BSKS are same thugs who organise rallies in solidarity with Israel, Thus supporting rapists in real.  The BJP is an opposition political party, they are extracting political mileage out of it.  People were watching India- pak match with same fervour and Dabhang2 movie is expected to cross 200cr. budget.  new year celebrations were in full swing.  However, i can't deny that some people have truly awoken but basic underlying disease is still there. No rape survivor has got justice so far.  a girl was raped by 40 men for 40 days a decade ago, the Indian way of justice for her was snatching her job."
