It's not taken from the Quran, I don't think so, but it's fully compatible with Quranic principles.

We sure need to thank Allah every morning we wake up for we never know if we will wake up alive the next morning.

Narrated Hudhaifa:

Whenever the Prophet () intended to go to bed, he would recite: "Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya (With Your name, O Allah, I die and I live)." And when he woke up from his sleep, he would say: "Al-hamdu lil-lahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana; wa ilaihi an-nushur (All the Praises are for Allah Who has made us alive after He made us die (sleep) and unto Him is the Resurrection). "

Lo! Allah hath bought from the believers their lives and their wealth because the Garden will be theirs: they shall fight in the way of Allah and shall slay and be slain. It is a promise which is binding on Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. Who fulfilleth His covenant better than Allah? Rejoice then in your bargain that ye have made, for that is the supreme triumph.9:111

Yeah, not a Quranic dua but it's compatible with the Quran.  I didn't know it was a Hadith dua.  It sounds a bit too humble to have its origin in Hadith.  Maybe Hudaifa got double-crossed by some kind hearted person who slipped in a nice dua in his name .. LOL  Cheesy  But it's a very nice dua and just for once hadith has written something like a civilized human being.

The Quran mentions the concept of death as a metaphor with sleep.  It also puts the pre-birth period at par with death as in Verses 39:42 and 30:19, respectively.

"Allah receiveth (men's) souls at the time of their death, and that (soul) which dieth not (yet) in its sleep. He keepeth that (soul) for which He hath ordained death and dismisseth the rest till an appointed term. Lo! herein verily are portents for people who take thought."  39:42   -Surah Az-Zumar.    In this verse Allah compares death with sleep.

"He bringeth forth the living from the dead, and He bringeth forth the dead from the living, and He reviveth the earth after her death. And even so will ye be brought forth."  30:19    -Surah Ar-Rum.    In this verse Allah compares the time before each person is born as a phase of death for that person.

Love both these verses.  Alhumdulilah.  All praise to You, dearest Allah.

Thank you brother Turth-Seeker.  And thanks a lot Sister Muslima for telling us the origin of this dua.
