October 20, 2023, 04:20:20 pm Heba E. Husseyn: Catching Zionist lies isn't hard. Soon after Gaza hospital bombing killing and maiming hundreds, Israel was quick to accuse Islamic Jihad of a misfired rocket.  That didn't sound plausible because IJ does not have such sophisticated bombing devices.  Zionist lie was fully exposed when anglican archbishop of Jerusalem,Hosam Naoum,  said today that 3 or 4 days prior to boming Israel had warned Gaza hospital to evacuate. Yet CIA claims in its flawed analysis that the rocket did not come from Israel.  But conveniently does not explain how Israel could have known 4 days earlier that a "misfired" rocket from IJ was coming.  Yet on the basis of this flawed & bias analysis of CIA, Biden is comforting Israel he believes Israel didn't do that war crimes bombing.

There was a noisy row in Facebook this afternoon, December 13, 2013.  In one of the Islamic pages,  the admin politely reminded everyone, suggesting not to participate in New Year eve celebration keeping in mind its very pagan roots.  Most Muslim members agreed wholeheartedly, except a few arguing 'why not' and displaying much impertinence.

It was also a reminder of Verse 5:70 of Surah Al-Maidah in the Noble Quran where The Almighty defines a very common and persistent characteristic of human psychology that whenever they are told to avoid something that suits their desires, they are furious, sometimes violent.  "As often as a messenger came unto them with that which their souls desired not (they became rebellious). Some (of them) they denied and some they slew."  Some of them have been habitually observing New Year celebrations for decades with fun and frolic.  Maybe all of them don't drink nor eat Haram nor indulge in Haram activities.  Yet, enthusiastic participation in the celebration of an event which has no moral boundaries keeps the door perpetually open for deviation.

The query whether participation in New Year celebrations is Halal or Haram, the answer is definitely Haram, lest a foot slip after being firmly planted.  Human nature is inherently lenient to temptations of all types.  Never forget that.

Some folks brought up a comparison of Muslims following the Gregorian calendar saying "if we can adhere to the Gregorian calendar, then why not observe New Year as well?"  Not a rational argument by a long shot.   True, many Muslims are using the Gregorian calendar to keep track of time, appointments and events.  That's an aspect of daily convenience in Muslim societies particularly those that have long been under Western colonial influence in the past.  Moreover, with an abundance of Muslims immigrating to Western regions makes their adherence to the Gregorian calendar a matter of practical necessity in daily life.   All that has no bearing on participating in New Year festivities.  Of course the Gregorian calendar also has pagan roots, but practically participating in a festival with glaring pagan origin is undeniably a different matter and a far greater transgression.

Use of the Gregorian calendar in the Muslim community came about through imperialist regimes who had occupied and colonized many Muslim countries across the globe from the mid 2nd millennium until the end of 1990s.  One of their purposes was to promote assimilation into foreign culture, wiping out everything Islamic including the Hijri calendar.  Moreover, use of Gregorian calendar in Muslim societies only denotes synchronizing global trade & business communications and travels.  Merely using the Gregorian calendar does not influence the Islamic culture.  But participation in festivals emerging from the days of ignorance definitely does.

For a genuine submitter (Muslim) there are no plausible reasons to observe useless and meaningless commemorations like the New Year, Christmas, Halloween, Easter etc. (all deeply rooted in pagan customs) other than self abnegation combined with lack of information on the pagan origins of these fetes.  No matter how straight one's intentions might be, why indulge in festivals which are known to have direct links with heathen culture?  One never knows who might get carried away and trapped in misguidance, and surely nothing is worth that risk.

Gregorian calendar began much later in the 16th century introduced by Pope Gregory in 1582.  To start the year on January 1st was the idea of Julius Caesar. It's interesting to note that the church did not like the wild parties that took place at the start of the new year which stemmed from pagan beliefs.  In 567 C.E. the church declared that having the year start on 1 January was an ancient mistake and it must be abolished.  Subsequently more than half a dozen different dates were introduced for starting the new year that were adhered to at different times of the  middle ages.  But by the 1600s (or early 1700s) most European countries drifted back to January 1st celebrations, the original biblical laws and history altered by human hands and rewritten over and over again according to the decisions of papal authorities.

Summary of celebrating winter solstice in pagan Europe:
It is linked with the Julian calendar when the polytheist Romans celebrated the rowdy pagan harvest festival of Saturnalia in honor of their pagan so-called god of agriculture, "Saturn."  They decorated trees with fruits and vegetables which supposedly symbolized a rich harvest in summer.  It started from December 17 until December 23.  And this is the origin of the modern Christmas tree.  In the time of pagan Rome, Saturnalia was a week long holiday and a period of lawlessness.  During this period Roman courts were closed, and Roman law dictated that no one could be punished for damaging property or injuring people during the weeklong celebration.  The festival began when Roman authorities chose “an enemy of the Roman people” to represent the “Lord of Misrule.”  Each Roman community selected a victim whom they forced to indulge in food and other physical pleasures throughout the week.  At the festival’s conclusion on December 25th, Roman authorities believed they were destroying the forces of darkness by brutally murdering this innocent man or woman.   Immediately after Saturnalia, started another orgy called Yule marking the winter solstice that stretched from December 25 to January 1 or beyond.  This celebration was dedicated to another supposed pagan deity of the Romans called "Janus" from which apparently the name of the month 'January' was derived.  These celebrations were later renamed as 'Christmas' and 'New Year' when the Romans converted to Christianity en masse but the practices remained the same.  During this period Rome had the Julian calendar introduced by Julius Caesar in 45 B.C.  After the murder of  Caesar, Rome also began celebrating January 1st in Caesar's memory to deify him.  The custom of Yule originated in the polytheistic society of Scandinavia  prior to the Celts.  They worshiped fire, viewing it as a life-giving substance.  In ancient times when there was no electricity and no central heating, lighting a bonfire provided the people with warmth and comfort in the cold winters, so those buffoons began worshiping fire.  Some embarrassed modern  historians claim Yule was a time of "quiet reflection."  That is rubbish, opposite of the truth.  It was a rave-up that went from disorderly to riotous with too much alcohol, too much nakedness, plenty of noise and  bonfires.  Senseless and complex, many historians who rely on cogent arguments have been befuddled at this unruly mishmash of activities.  Briefly put, the winter solstice celebrations started mid December and culminated in the first few days of January.  Saturnalia and Yule were celebrated one after the other, coming from Nordic and Germanic mythologies steeped in illiteracy and idolatry.  Note the striking resemblance with the trend they follow at present during the same season every year.

At present, drunkenness and rowdyism exist to the fullest during New Year's eve.  Pathetic and frightening scenes of booze, drugs and chaos are common on the night of December 31.  Crime rate is one of the highest on this night, often declared by Western law enforcers as the 'MOST DANGEROUS NIGHT OF THE YEAR.'   Nowadays, Christmas is largely accepted as a family event and people usually stay home.  But December 31 is an outdoor bash.  The drunken orgy is meant to be loud, oft damaging.  Police patrolling is wider and more persistent on this evening.  Law enforcers advise people to use public transport not just to avoid traffic jams, but for their own safety to avoid drunk driving and to avoid becoming victims of drunk drivers.  Stoned and intoxicated, by the time they return home it's past four or five in the morning.   Fatal accidents on the night of Dec.31 and January 1st are no rarities.

Finally but most importantly
It is essential to know that these wild, stomach-churning parties of the Age of Ignorance have NOTHING to do with Prophet Essa, son of Virgin Maryam (peace on them both).  He was one of the messengers of Allah Almighty, grounded in Monotheism, intelligent, with high morals.  He would spit on such celebrations!  Also, the corruption within Christianity turning it into polytheism with the introduction of trinity has NO connections with the teachings of Prophet Essa, son of Virgin Maryam.  He NEVER ever said to deify him, he NEVER spoke of himself as anything other than a human being and the slave of Allah Almighty.  Refer to the Noble Quran, the only source of Truth, original and intact: Dialogue between ALLAH ALMIGHTY and Prophet Essa (Jesus) son of Virgin Maryam.

If the night of the New Year was to have for you any significance at all, then simply stay home and reflect.  Let it be a night to introspect .. to ponder.  Carefully take a look at your own life and ask yourself, "A whole year has passed and what have I accomplished?  What is my goal?  What were my positive contributions?  What were my violations?"  Let it be a night to repent as we get closer to our Final Journey with the passing of each year.  Don't waste you time with that silly rhetoric "New Year's Resolution" to turn your life around for the better, if that is seriously your goal. The moment you realize your missteps, correct yourself, for you never know if you will survive until the new year.  Make your positive decisions in silence and your commitment to Allah (The Highest), and move on for a better life.  Let that be your New Year's Celebration and you will wake up the next morning refreshed, without a splitting headache.

The following Youtube video for a better understanding of this topic:  Dr. Abdul Hakeem Quick's presentation during his visit to Florida in 2011.  Duration 1 hour and 25 minutes (speech and Q&A).  Do watch when you get the time, Insh'Allah.  Abdullah Hakim Quick is a very well-read Islamic scholar based in Toronto.  Born a Christian, he embraced Islam in 1970.

Check "Four reasons why Muslims should not celebrate New Year's Eve" @ Muslim Matters

(1) It's technically inaccurate and pagan.
(2) What exactly is there to celebrate?  Any celebration by Muslims needs to be put into context of the local and global situation of the pan-Islamic world.
(3) It usually involves un-Islamic practices.
(4) It is against the spirit and logic of Islam, the Monotheistic Faith.

Compare the images below, celebration of winter solstice (Saturnalia and Yule), by the Romans and the Vikings, and the modern-day celebration on January 31.   You don't need to be told that there's nothing to choose between the two.  Both are disgusting.

Thank you sister.  Very clearly explained and exposed with facts, logic, factual images and some useful references.  This new year's eve is a big nuisance, to be honest.  Especially if one is living in a non-Muslim country or in a so-called secular Muslim country.  It's definitely not safe to go out at night.  Not just that, but one is also apprehensive about some drunk knocking at your door after midnight either coming into the wrong house or just wanting to make trouble.

The second problem is that Muslim kids hear so much at their school on plans for new year's eve that Muslim parents need to work hard to prevent their young impressionable minds from getting trapped into this curse.  Well, what to talk about kids, even many Muslim adults cannot see the reason why indulging in it is a bad idea.

Furthermore, it's awfully pathetic to read how lightly the media takes this foul behavior of drunken revelry, as if it's a joke.

This is the article heading that appeared in Yahoo News on January 1st, today.

There was just one comment to this article that expressed dislike and repugnance for this lowly tradition .... so even among Westerners there are some who realize and detest this tradition.

The comment got one thumbs-up which was from me.

I hope our readers send this truly informative piece around.  Verse 5:70 is the answer for those who resent being told that it's wrong.  The fact that this festival has such a direct pagan link, that observing it even without drinking or dancing cannot be called Halal because the theme of this party springs directly from two Haram polytheistic stories of Saturnalia and Janus.  It's much the same reason why celebrating Nauroz would be Haram which too props up from pagan ideas. I've known many Sunni and non-Iranian Shiia Muslims avoiding Nauroz celebrations, which is right, but the same ones find nothing wrong with joining New Year celebrations. The biggest problem is ignorance. The West has blacked out many parts of history which it knows will tarnish its image. I think it's time for educationalists around the world to include the history of Christmas and New Year in the syllabus of secondary schools and colleges so that people can read and know the truth.  It's very likely that after that a lot of Muslims and even many Christians will quit celebrating this bullshit.

For my family, yesterday evening was like any other.  Evening shower, some bit of TV and computer, family chat, dinner, doing the dishes, Isha prayers and then off to bed everyone  Smiley   Alhumdulilah.  Every morning you wake up for Fajr, alive and healthy, thinking of a Halal, clean and productive yesterday, is a blessing.

Thank you for this very straightforward information.  I repeat, hope our readers take the trouble to send this thread around.  It might help some people who are truly interested to find guidance, InshAllah.

Very correct Sister Ruhi.  Ignorance is the main problem.  Many Muslims (especially non-Iranian Muslims) have heard enough about nauroz not having Islamic roots (which is true) so they avoid it.  I completely agree.  But the reason those same Muslims are comfortable with new year is because they have been kept in the dark about its history so they think it's just a social western festival.  It also saddens me to say that a lot of Iranian Muslims do know about the Haram origin of nauroz, yet they have justified it with false Shiia Ahadith and false stories about the imams connecting them with nauroz.  To make nauroz appear permissible, they put a copy of the Noble Quran and a du'a for the Final Messenger (pbuh) on the table with the food.  But if you ask them where in the Quran does it say to observe nauroz or any similar false practices from the pagan era, they will have no answers.

Subhan'Allah.  Couldn't agree more.   May Allah Almighty shower His blessings on your family and all who follow His guidance without deviating one way or another for selfish purposes.

 salamem

very comprehensive and educative one 10/10  well explained,  So what if we are using Gregorian calendar due to circumstances beyond our control ? Or is there any law that we must celebrate pagan root festivals ? non muslins events including new year eve ,?In fact  caliph Umar 's made islamic calendar is clear rejection of copying non-Muslim celebrations, how sad Millions muslims too keep New Year's without knowing why or where it originated jazak Allah Thank U so much  sis zeynab &  MV for being so helpful at every discussion ,ohh it was much need at that time @ but due to error on server or what i don't know i couldn't sign up ? we were trying to convince many teenagers to not to participate in this ridiculous event ! what a brain choking discussion we had with youngsters, teenagers , including stupid ,fool girls, freedom lover's those who are crushing islamic values in the battle of equality for nothing and thinks !  so what if we do the same, just going out with group of friends ,not doing any harm, so it shouldn't be forbidden  Shocked what's wrong with todays youngsters both boys and girls , they don't wanna compromise on their wandering /آوارہ گردی /Awara Gardi, Ya Allah how to dicrese such misguidance  Sad from them  further given example was a torture!!  Why u guys spoiling our eve plans ,few of them said , see how unlucky we are i wish we could go to Dubai ,very nice , full of fun , multicultural ,muslim country , and if its haram then why they celebrate new year eve ? Ahh  Ummah have deep influence of kuffar and muslim kuffar of Dubai /UAE are huge unfortunate of islam and great misguidance for ummah i have seen how they glitter such kuffar Celebrations ,non muslim. holidays and the occasions to encourages all haram acts but believer should not fall for this because it is the festivals of others, believers must not join such celebrations they leads us to evil path, even just for enjoyment alone ur  presence in any non muslim party itself a wrong decision ,it's like u going on a slippery slope, u can slip any time , Q: What is the charm in these senseless new year celebrations ? Counting ,firework , shouting , hugging ,kissing , drinking , loud music ,dancing ,Taking alcohol and mixing with Girls /women in order to commit zina ? Which is never be halal ,and then what ? Above images are proof of haram tradition, getting drunk and being naked ,then obviously zina ' is a tradition and perpose of this haram roman celebration ,New Year's Eve Celebration are Full fahashi , behayahi , even wors its hard to accept if some of so called muslims youngsters justify their funfilled nights went through without consuming any haram Q:, my question is so if you are not intent to do any haram isn't better to stay at home ?why take a risk just for free drinks ?or free chocolates? Free fries cooked in haram pig fat oil? @ dear new year nights free soft drinks ,even free chocolates are filled with wine syrup ,what about that ? Is this a descent islamic way of any celebrations ? Not at all ,it is Not permissible for muslims  to do exhibitionism, act shameless, even behave wild , staying up all night to spend time in vain or for nothing in the name of celebrating at 31st ,it  is waste of time ."And Allah has made the night for rest ,not to awake all night, except when there are suggestions for night prayers. Then forbids the celebration of New Year's Eve for Muslims is an effort to prevent and protect the Believers from the bad influence that experts commonly done immoral.Allah says in Quran cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.

but help ye one another unto righteousness and pious duty. Help not one another unto sin and transgression 5:2

Also how could any muslim do this ? is there any reason for such celebrations ?  When the many muslims brothers ,sisters, and children's are suffering  With great sorrow and broken hearts? we witness the killing, rape and the expulsion of Muslims throughout the world, at the hands of the Western enemies of Islam. How terrible At the same time muslims expressing their loyalty to the West and being fascinated with its culture, cerebrating their occasions for false happiness  Cry

Many thanks sister Muslima for your views and additional facts that Muslims need to remember.   Btw, you're absolutely right. Christmas and New Year desserts are often, almost always, laced with rum and wine.  Therefore Muslims going on joy rides with cousins and friends and eager to follow the crowd need to seriously think where they're heading.

As a Muslim brother correctly said, can someone  ask them, what precisely is there to celebrate from a logical perspective?  They claim December 31 is the last day of the current year, and the calendar setting of that date is one of its kind which will never repeat itself.  From that perspective, doesn't every single day of every current year have its own unique calendar setting which will never repeat itself?   For example, today is January 4th 2014.   Will this specific day of this specific year every repeat itself?   No it won't.   December 31 is logically no different. The Roman pagans observed it in remembrance of their idols.  The Roman rulers, after the conversion of Romans into so-called Christians, couldn't abolish pagan feasts of Saturnalia and Janus because these festivals were very popular among the newly converted Christians and eradicating these two ceremonies would annoy them who would most likely slip back to paganism.  That's why these kuffar traditions had to be retained in different names.  Since the Christians today feel embarrassed to say they follow pagan gods, so they replace that with birthday of Jesus, son of Virgin Maryam and New Year.   And many naive Muslims blindly follow such merry-making.

Many young so-called Muslims whose parents haven't done anything to help them with Faith orientation do really a lot of help. Some of those guttersnipes also created quite a ruckus at our Muslim community center last week.  Several of us told them it's definitely Haram.  If they wanted to be a part of the orgy, it's their responsibility for which they'll have to answer to Allah.  But they cannot spin around the facts and try to make it Halal.  Then they wanted some reading material.  So today, Dec.31 afternoon of 2016 ... I just finished sending this piece to at least 8 families.  Three responded they agreed, that the matter was clear to them.  The rest were silent.  The job of a true Muslim is only to inform.  Those who grasp the truth help their own souls, otherwise they hurt their own souls in the Hereafter.  We, who follow the Truth, lose nothing from their blurry vision.

Many thanks Sister Zeynab.  Super piece and great feedback by brother TS, Sis Ruhi, Sis Muslima.

Yeah sis Heba, some of those "guttersnipes" (like that term 😆 ) are such goners that it's pointless talking to them. Their parents feel they can do nothing.  Of course at this stage they can do nothing, but initially they never worked to build a healthy foundation for their kids and so now have to bear with the heartache of watching them turn into guttersnipes.

We must offer tons of thanks Allah Almighty that our kids are the exact opposite.

So, as the calendar jumps to the title of 2018 of January 1, it's now 10.50 morning here, and my husband and I have already been inundated with "new year" greeting calls from friends for a happy year in a better world.  They mean well, but poor folks.  They overlook that the world is rapidly getting full of selfish and cruel people.  Allah Almighty helps only if the people work to make this world a better place.  A mere change of year with new titles is useless if the people keep leeching on to their status quo.

Spot on as you always are dear Sister.  This is a perfect comment on the new year's first day.  On this day home phones, cell phones and the social media are buzzing with new year greetings, but based on no logic whatsoever .... without an iota of indication that the ones in power desire to change this world for the better.

Reminder:
Today, December 31st 2020, 5.50 p.m. here.   It's the right time for the guests of MV to read this thread.

If you're thinking of stepping out to watch the drunken revelry, please dismiss that idea.  It's primitive and uncivilized that could hurt the quality of your character and ruin the quality of your soul.  Who in their right mind would ever want that?

Additionally, this is a time when the world is caught up in a terrible, deadly pandemic that requires staying home, stepping out only for essential errands with social distancing and wearing of masks.  Something as unruly as new year celebration should be the last thing to participate in particularly at a time such as this .. and at all times.
