"Is not He (best) Who made the earth a fixed abode, and placed rivers in the folds thereof, and placed firm hills therein, and hath set a barrier between the two seas ? Is there any God beside Allah ? Nay, but most of them know not!"  (27:61) Surah An-Naml   [translated by M.M. Pickthall).

Though I haven't yet read the tantrums of Answering-Islam's misinterpretations of Verse 27:61, that doesn't mean they haven't yet gone about with it.  Furthermore, there are various others we meet in our daily life who are no different from them.  Thus, let me put up the right and accurate interpretation of Verse 27:61.

As you can see Verse 27:61 quoted above is translated into English by M.M. Pickthall.  The expression "fixed abode" used by Pickthall in his translation may prompt the agitated neurotics of Answering-Islam & co. to throw into their usual fits and tantrums involving their false obsession that this Verse refers to a sedentary or static earth.  Nothing of the sort folks.

A few years ago I had the misfortune of having a guest in our home who had the same mentality as the AI gang.  She brought up Pickthall's translation of Verse 27:61 and began ranting that the Quran says earth doesn't move.  Swamped with the usual hassles of entertainment, I couldn't have an uninterrupted debate with this unlettered woman.  But I told her that I was one-hundred percent certain the Quran NEVER mentions of a static earth anywhere.  I added that I would study this Verse thoroughly, do my research and then clarify the matter to her in detail via email within two days or earlier.  Sister Heba helped me with some great research and  luminous feedback on Verse 27:61.  I sent it to that weird woman and she never replied.

The expression selected by Pickthall in his English translation is not used as a verb like fixing something with spikes, nails or screws to make it immovable, as misunderstood by that unthinking guest.  It's used as an adjective denoting suitability and safety.

I would like to share Sister Heba's accurate interpretation of Verse 27:61 with our MV readers as well.  I repeat, Verse 27:61 does NOT mean a static earth.  Please read that post at the following link in our Quran tafsir board of specific topics for complete details.
