November 01, 2023, 03:43:43 pm Ruhi_Rose: Yes .. making lots of dua everyday ..... watching those real life video clips, my face feels wet with tears all the time.  May ALLAH grant the best to these wonderful, brave & steadfast martyrs,  Ameen ya Allah.
November 01, 2023, 03:38:26 pm Zainab_M: Keep praying, praying a lot for Gaza. It's worse than a prison .. it's a concentration camp.  Children as young as 10 or 11 are having to care for their younger siblings ages 2, 3 and 4 becoz many have lost both parents.  It's a very, very, very tearful situation there.

October 20, 2023, 04:24:44 pm Zainab_M: Right sister Heba.  Gaza hospital bombing has the fingerprints of Israel all over it.  For Israel this is no big crime.  They have done this and much worse many times in the past and intend to do the same and worse many more times in near future.
October 20, 2023, 04:20:20 pm Heba E. Husseyn: Catching Zionist lies isn't hard. Soon after Gaza hospital bombing killing and maiming hundreds, Israel was quick to accuse Islamic Jihad of a misfired rocket.  That didn't sound plausible because IJ does not have such sophisticated bombing devices.  Zionist lie was fully exposed when anglican archbishop of Jerusalem,Hosam Naoum,  said today that 3 or 4 days prior to boming Israel had warned Gaza hospital to evacuate. Yet CIA claims in its flawed analysis that the rocket did not come from Israel.  But conveniently does not explain how Israel could have known 4 days earlier that a "misfired" rocket from IJ was coming.  Yet on the basis of this flawed & bias analysis of CIA, Biden is comforting Israel he believes Israel didn't do that war crimes bombing.
July 29, 2023, 03:02:07 am Zainab_M: Yesterday was Ashura, Muharram 10, 1444 (July 27, 2023).  Read about this very tragic day and details of the world's greatest 7th century revolutionary: WHO WAS HUSSEIN.
June 28, 2023, 09:48:39 am Zainab_M: Walaikum As Salaam.  This was the first Hajj open to all after the pandemic. It was attended by 2.6 million Muslims.

Quoting the uninformed "critics" of Answering-Islam:

"By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; By the Moon as she follows him;"  (91:1-2).  The Arabic word translated "follow" is used many other places to mean recite, but is primarily defined as to follow, go or walk behind, follow in way of immitation, of action etc. and is often used for animals like camels following behind each other.

Unquoting them:

Apart from the fact that the above statement from Answering-Islam clearly indicates how clueless and inexplicit they are, let me inform these cyber vandals that the Arabic equivalents for "follow" and "recite" are two completely separate terms.

Quoting the very beautiful Verses 91:1-2

"wal-shamsi waḍuḥāhā wal-qamari idhā talāhā"

"By the sun and its brightness, And the moon when it follows it,"
  (Translation Corpus Quran).

The word "talaha" translates into "it follows it,"

"Talaha" which means "follow" is written in Arabic as: تَلَاهَا

On the other hand, the word "yatluna" which means "recite" is written in Arabic as:  يَتْلُونَ

"Talaha" or "follow" means to walk or come behind, while "yatluna" or "recite / read" means to repeat or utter aloud (something memorized or rehearsed) either before an audience or alone.  It's so simple as that.  Answering-Islam won't say what exactly it's objecting to.  If anyone can get the hang of AI's befuddlement, please let us know.

Also, this criticism is another example of Answering-Islam's work left incomplete coupled with its senselessness.  The critics say "follow" is used many other places to mean recite,"  but they fail to quote any Verses to clarify their criticism.  They have purposely not quoted any Verses because in that case their mistake ensuing from their own lack of understanding of Arabic would be exposed.  In other words, Answering-Islam is depending on keeping its mindless and purposeless criticism afloat by making it obscure.

We will mention six Verses (out of many more) where the word "yatluna" (recite) with slight variations to fit in the grammar of different ayats, like yatlūnahu (recite it), yatlū (will recite), tuliyat / tut'lā (are recited) etc. are mentioned.  Translations (word by word) are from Corpus Quran.

"wahum yatlūna l-kitāba"  (Verse 2:113).
Translation:  "although they recite the Book."

"ātaynāhumu l-kitāba yatlūnahu"  (2:121).
Translation:  "We have given them the Book recite it"

"rabbanā wa-ib'ʿath fīhim rasūlan min'hum yatlū ʿalayhim  āyātika"  (2:129).
Translation:  "Our Rab!  (And) raise up in them a Messenger for them (who) will recite to them Your Verses."

"wa-idhā tuliyat ʿalayhim āyātuhu zādathum  īmānan"  (8:2).
Translation:  "and when are recited to them His Verses, they increase them (in) faith"

"wa-idhā tut'lā  ʿalayhim  āyātunā qālū"  (8:31).
Translation:  "And when are recited to them Our Verses they say,"

Also note, all of the above original Arabic words like yatluna, yatlu, tuliyat, tutla etc. carry the same meaning as the word talawat which is a common Arabic term for recitation.  It is also used in the Quran - talawtuhu ("I (would) have recited it") - in Verse 10:16 quoted below:

"talawtuhu ʿalaykum walā adrākum"  (10:16).
Translation:  "I (would) have recited it to you, and not He (would) have made it known to you."

Hence, if you have read all of the above Quranic examples carefully, you can now focus on Verse 91:1-2 quoted in the beginning of this post, and you can compare the word "talaha" (it follows it) with the examples above having the root word "recite." The difference between the two words is about the clearest and simplest to understand.  The word "recite" is never used anywhere to mean "follow."  The word "follow" (talaha) which means to come after is only used in Verse 91:2.  It makes Answering-Islam's confusion, lack  of knowledge of Arabic and empty-vessel-sort-of rattling much too obvious and quite laughable.

Again referring to Surah 91 (Ash-Shams) on focus, the first set of 4 Verses of this Surah (quoted below in Pickthall's translation) has nothing to do with science.  It's an eloquent and spectacular piece of Arabic literature with profound beauty in the quality of language, its flow and rhythm.  The Divine Style is unmatchable and its explanation is the easiest.

"By the sun and his brightness,And the moon when she followeth him,And the day when it revealeth him,And the night when it enshroudeth him,(91:1-4)

Needless to say, it does NOT mean the moon physically tottering after the sun as the AI idiots are desperate to presume.  In the beginning the verses convey the concept of day and night (moon following the sun means nightfall following daylight), night enshrouding the sun does NOT mean the sun wrapped up in a piece of cloth.  It merely refers to the earth's rotation bringing about nightfall, making the sun invisible.  All of this consists of the wonders of Allah Almighty.  The manner or mode of elucidation can be described as of poetic genre.

This is what happens when feeble minds deepen their weakness by getting them compounded with wrong information.

I will give the link of the entire set of Quranic Verses that use the word "yatluna" (recite) with its grammatical variations in the different verses it's used.  In the same list you will also find the word "talala" as the only expression with the meaning "follow."  Other than the Verses in this list, there are no more Verses which contain any expressions derived from the word "yatluna" nor the word "yatluna" itself.  Similarly, "talala" (to follow) is only in Verse 91:2.  The difference between the two expressions is much too obvious.

The only similarity that can be mentioned is that they are both verbs.  But needless to say, such an aspect does not even come in the category of a criticism.  There are thousands of words in every language that are listed under various parts of speech - noun, verbs, adjectives and so on.  That's the way every language is constructed.

If, for example, you are narrating a poem by memory or reading it, or narrating/reading anything, that will be called "recitation" or "reciting."

If, for example, you are shopping in a mall and you realize a mugger is stalking you, that would be described as "following" or "to follow," depending on the nature of the sentence that's constructed to describe the situation.

Though definition-wise both words - recite and follow - are poles apart, the reason why Answering-Islam has emerged with the bizarre idea of linking these two words is this:  Some idiotic Christian clerics as well as Christian-friendly atheists with Islam as a common enemy have portrayed the absurd notion that "reciting" amounts to "following" because when you recite something you "follow" the words of a text you are narrating.  With that sort of brainless misinterpretation, Answering-Islam has linked the practice of reading to the act of following physically.

That's why I say it's a thorough waste of our precious time arguing with these unlettered heathens of pathetically low intelligence who don't even have the knack to format a manipulated criticism.

I totally agree with Sister Zeynab that Verses 91:1-4, rather 1-10, have nothing to do with science.  Though the Verses carry basic, vital and realistic information and these are Quranic Verses not poetry, the Divine Manner of narration is so superb, magnificent, that the amazing quality of its literary language definitely has a remarkable poetic classification.

All praise be to Allah, The Almighty.

Thanks Sister Zeynab for your time and effort to competently unveil another attempted spiritual vandalism from the uneducated and trouble-making disbelievers of Answering-Islam.

This "criticism" is a badly cooked crock of bullshit.  No head, no tail, the critic has no idea what they want to say, they can't clarify their own objection so how can they be expected to write sense?

Also note, all of the above original Arabic words like yatluna, yatlu, tuliyat, tutla etc. carry the same meaning as the word talawat which is a common Arabic term for recitation.  It is also used in the Quran - talawtuhu ("I (would) have recited it") - in Verse 10:16 quoted below:

Many thanks Sis, I didn't know this.  Yes, tilawat is a very common term also in Urdu and it specifically denotes the recitation of the Quran.

Thanks for the great piece Sister Zeynab. Your clarifications are spot on and educational.

Some idiotic Christian clerics as well as Christian-friendly atheists with Islam as a common enemy have portrayed the absurd notion that "reciting" amounts to "following" because when you recite something you "follow" the words of a text you are narrating.  With that sort of brainless misinterpretation, Answering-Islam has linked the practice of reading to the act of following physically.

This is exactly the moronic reason for that criticism quoted in yellow from the dingbat buggers.  You got it so right Sis Heba.

Furthermore, what Answering-Islam must observe, the following Verses of Surah Ash-Shams from 8 to 10 where Allah mentions about the human soul,  .... "And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it.  He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it."  (91:8-10).

The last verse is a hint on Answering-Islam type of beasts, their resounding failure coming from their inability to make their conscience grow and leaving it stunted like a dwarf.
