This lecture was basically revolving around the Hadith narrator, Abu Dharr on his following Hadith:

Quote -
On the authority of Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him):"Some people from amongst the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to the Prophet (peace be upon him), 'O Messenger of Allah, the affluent have made off with the rewards; they pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, and they give [much] in charity by virtue of their wealth.' He (peace be upon him) said, 'Has not Allah made things for you to give in charity? Truly every tasbeehah [saying subhan-Allah] is a charity, and every takbeerah [saying Allahu akbar] is a charity, and every tahmeedah [saying alhamdulillah] is a charity, and every tahleelah [saying la ilaha illAllah] is a charity. And commanding the good is a charity, and forbidding an evil is a charity, and in the sexual act of each one of you there is a charity.' They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, when one of us fulfills his sexual desire, will he have some reward for that?' He (peace be upon him) said: 'Do you not see that if he were to act upon it [his desire] in an unlawful manner, then he would be deserving of punishment? Likewise, if he were to act upon it in a lawful manner, then he will be deserving of a reward.'"  [Sahih Muslim bin Hajaj]

Here is the lecture.  The venue was Islamic Institute Toronto (IIT).  Audio lecture via IIT podbeam.   This lecture was on 10 April 2015, so you'll find it on the main page.  But if you want to view this link after April, then you'll find it by clicking on 'April' under 'Archives.'

Throughout this lecture from beginning to end, there were only two or three Quranic verses and one or two extra-Quranic duas recited by the Sheikh that were righteous.  Rest were all Hadith fantasies unwarranted by the Quran.

According to the lecture, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty did admit that lot of "traditions" have been forged;  he highlighted that we have to pick the authentic ones but didn't say how the authentiticity of those we choose can be proven.  According to him, Bukhari and his student Muslim are the chief sources of "traditions" and the Sheikh referred to Bukhari as the "commander-in-chief" of the Hadith institution.  LOL!  In other words, commander-in-chief of lies appointed by Shaitaan.  As mentioned, the lecture was on the above quoted narration by Abu Dharr.  According to Imam Kutty, Quranic Verse 9:100 (quoted below) refers to Abu Dharr as one of the persons .. or the only person.

"And the first to lead the way, of the Muhajirin and the Ansar, and those who followed them in goodness - Allah is well pleased with them and they are well pleased with Him, and He hath made ready for them Gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide for ever. That is the supreme triumph."  (9:100).

He never clarified how he concluded this Verse refers to Abu Dharr or any other hadith narrator.   Imam Kutty conveniently ignored so many Verses of Surah At-Taubah (approximately from Verses 9:42 to 9:97) where Allah Almighty has plainly condemned many of those who hovered around the Prophet (pbuh) pretending to be friends but were actually the laggards whose description in the Quran fits accurately with the ones who narrated a load of very offensive false ahadith to distort Islam.

Sheikh Kutty also recited Verse 9:100 in original Arabic and then quickly stated its English translation but never mentioned the Verse number.  That's another common trick with our shiekhs.  Since most people hardly read the Quran except for Tarawi in Ramadan (of which they seldom understand a word), Sheikh Kutty was pretty sure that no one would know which Verse he was referring to and therefore they would never ask themselves how he interpreted that Verse as a compliment for Abu Dharr.  But I knew which Verse it was and I don't see any link between Verse 9:100 and any of those folks who have narrated the ahadith.   Many of those ahadith which Sheikh Kutty and his colleagues would find perfectly acceptable are actually no less disturbing to a conscientiously perceptive person than the ones they admit to be unreliable or fabricated.

According to Sheikh Kutty if you want to know what real Islam is, you have to look to the lives of the Hadith narrators.  It never even occurred to him that you simply need to stick by the Quran to be the Muslim Allah wants you to be.

Whenever our so-called scholars talk in detail about any hadith narrator, that person is always portrayed as the Prophet's favorite friend.  So now, while babbling a load of bunkum about Abu Dharr, according to Sheikh Kutty, Abu Dharr was the first person who met the Prophet (pbuh).  Okay, then what happened to the "commander-in-chief" fabricator & deceiver, Abu Huraira, who is supposed to have narrated 40,000 hadiths in barely 3 years .. the man who never even actually met the Prophet (pbuh)?  You'll never get an answer to that question, except that you'll be branded a "munkir-e-hadith" and a "deviant."

Okay, now pay heed to this.  The lecture went on, referring to the hadith quoted at the start of this post.  There was no one more fair in speech than Abu Dharr as claimed by Sheikh Kutty. Now let's see how "fair of speech" he was.  Abu Dharr came from the "community of the poor" (we've read the same about Abu Huraira).  One day some folks who were poor asked the Prophet that they can't give charity for they are financially straightened. The Prophet said doesn't matter, saying SubhanAllah is charity, saying Allah-o-Akbar is charity, saying Alhumdulilah is charity, saying La ilaha ilAllah is charity, smiling cheerfully is charity, instructing right conduct is charity and forbidding evil is charity.  All that is absolutely fine .. I agree totally.  Then suddenly the narrator went tipsy claiming that the Prophet allegedly said, "in the sexual act of each one of you there is a charity."  These are the sort of "wait a minute" moments that pop up while reading Hadith that shocks the life out of every sane believer.  Then, one of the companions asked how could that be charity?  The reply was that if you indulge in illegal sex that would be worthy of punishment, so if you indulge in lawful sex (alluding to intimacy with spouse) that would be worthy of reward.  Man!!  these guys aren't aware even of the basic etiquette of ethics or civilization. Everyone knows that indulging in zina is completely HARAM and a horribly offensive sin.  But must it  imply that screwing your wife can be categorized as an official substitute for the true and noble acts of charity?   Well, consummating your relationship with your spouse is perfectly Halal and it's something very private & personal to everyone's life.  It's got nothing to do with "charity." For the sake of Allah, have some sense Abu Dharr and Mr. Kutty!   The Prophet (pbuh) was a dignified and decent gentleman and highly courteous.  He NEVER spoke this way to anyone, that's for sure.  This is what happens even with those narrations we term as the "good ahadith."  They go well for a while and then boom!  They say something so awkward, often vulgar, which doesn't teach us anything new and leaves a crude, bad taste in everyone's mouth.

Apart from the first few correct gestures described as charity, one more correct thing he said for a change, which I didn't expect from someone like him, that if a woman starts to unexpectedly menstruate during Umrah (I'm sure that would also apply for Hajj), her Umrah would still be accepted because this is a problem beyond her control that has nothing to do with intentions.  This was followed by a story that Aisha went for Hajj with the Prophet and she began having her periods.  She was very grieved and began to weep.  The Prophet comforted her telling her not to worry, it wasn't her fault.  Definitely the Prophet was rational and sensible and this is precisely what he would say in such a situation, but we don't know if such an incident really happened as so many similar stories have been fabricated.

Sheikh Kutty describes the janaza (funeral) of Abu Dharr.
According to Kutty, Prophet (pbuh) predicted Abu Dharr will live a loner and die a loner and will be raised alone on the Day of Resurrection.  Well, we know for sure that the Prophet (pbuh) never guessed and predicted anything, much less the unseen pertaining to the next world.  The Quran categorically states that the Prophet (pbuh) did NOT know the future.
Please refer to Did the Prophet (pbuh) know the future (Surah Al-Ahqaf).

I tell you folks, if you're a true Quran follower only, listening to these Hadithist lectures feels like sitting in a tea house, sipping chai and listening to a storyteller hollering away without knowing his limits.  If the Prophet's (pbuh) soul was to listen to the references galore they make to him, pinning up his name with strange narrations, the Prophet's first reaction would be "what the heck are they talking?"

Hah ?????   he claims Verse 9:100 refers to Abu Dharr ??   NO WAY!  This is going too far.

  Sahih ...

the Sheikh referred to Bukhari as the "commander-in-chief" of the Hadith institution.

Grin Grin  or the sheikh meant Bukhari's commander-in-chief is Shaitaan  laugh

That's very true Sis. You know, whenever I read those Verses of Surah At-Taubah, it almost feels that Allah is reprimanding the hadith narrators and compilers ..

Using the friends of Shaitaan as role models. This is what our imams have come to.

Good read Sis.  Ahadith MUST be removed from Islam.  Instead as time goes by, so-called scholars are making them more indispensable.

~ gasps, chuckles & giggles ~   Cheesy

Expect nothing different.  For every single correct thing they utter, they make it up by uttering 4 bad things. Sometimes they might utter a few little good things and make it up by a colossal outpouring of one horrendous, vulgar or crude thing.  The ahadith remains a deeply tainted and untrustworthy institution already.  Added to that, the mood swings of our "scholarly" lecturers only make us more wary.

I too saved that IIT podbeam link some time ago.  But so far I haven't succeeded in finding a single smooth lecture without those "wait a minute" moments that never give me a chance to regret my decision of quitting the hadith institution.

Alhumdulilah my Rab.  Thank You for Your guidance.

Ahah ha ha ha.  I appreciate your enjoyment Sis Ruhi and Zeynab.  It was no different with me.

Sis Zeynab.  So true.  I wait for our imams to speak complete sense from start to finish like the return of a long lost treasure.  But to no avail.  The standard of the lecture is eventually no different from a tea house chat.  If they at all use one or two Quranic Verses, it's only to misinterpret them.

Exactly sis.  Now I've given up waiting for any improvements.  And what really feels hurtful is when they play around with Quranic Verses, misinterpreting them grossly by connecting them with absurd hadith misinformation.

Exactly, that is absolutely unconscientious.  If hadith is that important for them, they should at least have the sense to keep it separate from the Quran.  They won't even do that. They link Haqq with baatil, consequently misinterpret Quranic Verses and then claim that Quran is dependent on Hadith and without Hadith you can't understand the Quran.   What a sick culture!
