 BismEm

 salamem

For the information of guests and readers, Eid-al-Fitr 2015 is on July 17, Friday.  Our sincere request is to please observe Eid with simplicity.  Utilize the day to thank Allah Almighty for the blessed month of Ramadan.  Do not please turn it into a colorful celebration in order to keep your life compatible with the Noble Quran.

Wa'Salam and thanks Sis. Very important reminder.

Actually we had only 29 days of fasting this year because the imams were too much in a rush to end Ramadan, it seems.  All Sunni centres of North America are observing Eid al-Fitr today, July 17, while Shiia centres are observing it on July 18.  That gives them 30 days of fasting.

Walaikum Salaam Sister Heba.  Yes right.  I think it was prearranged.  They wanted Eid on Friday to make it a long weekend for working ones.  But these are bad ideas.  It's impossible they didn't calculate that Eid on 17th would mean 29 fasts.

That's a possibility.  The other likelihood is that they made a genuine mistake by announcing the start of Ramadan a day later, on June 18 instead of 17, and then got stuck at the end seeing that a Friday Eid would mean only 29 fasts.  The Sunnis still went ahead to announce Eid on 17 while the Shiias thought of making it 30 days.

Yes, that's also very likely.
