As-salaam Alaikum.

This is something one must know and understand.  It was put up on Facebook by a member of our forum, Farouk Peru, on his timeline.  The discussion arises from a fatwa of Sheikh Ibn Taymiyah.  His view is quite plainly incorrect because of his blurred cognizance of the Islamic Faith.

The following is Ibn Taymiyah's fatwa quoted by that member.

This fatwa is one of the many specimens of proof how medieval and modern clerics mislead people and distort their grasp of the Noble Quran.

Shaykh Ibn Taymiyyāh:
❝It is better to have many sins with correct Tawhīd, than to have a few sins with incorrect Tawhīd.❞  [Fatāwa, 1/466]

The following is the member's comment which is self-explanatory:

"I find this a very strange statement. How can one have the 'correct tawhid' (monotheistic theology) if one is engaging in wrongful acts? This to me is a separation between aqeedah (theological belief) and akhlaq (ethics). In my view, this is alien to the Quran. The Quran links our ethics with the purity of our monotheism."

This aspect is vital to understand which very few do because of the fallacious teachings of our clerics, giving Islamophobes a new bundle of excuses to ignorantly lambaste Islam.

When Allah Almighty tells us in Verse 3:110 "You are the best community that hath been raised up for mankind."  This does NOT refer to those claiming to be "Muslims" by lip service in the ritualistic sense.  The word "Muslim" denotes a person who is self-surrendered to Allah, that is, submitted themselves into total obedience to Allah.  That obedience must be based on the principles of the Quran alone and NO other book or source.  The first step of surrendering yourself to Allah is adherence to strict Tawheed or Monotheism.  Once this is fully acquired, we walk further, embracing the entire code of conduct as elucidated in His Final Message.  Thus, the Quran constantly defines the ultimate triumph (that is, acceptance and forgiveness by Him in the Hereafter) by highlighting the prerequisites of belief in Tawheed along with good conduct.  A true believer who has understood the indispensable importance of Tawheed cannot possibly overlook the dire need for righteous acts to complete the ideology of Tawheed as commanded by the Divine Power.  While mentioning the requirements for eligibility to Paradise, the Noble Quran invariably and continually states "Those who believe and do good deeds"  ..... both aspects go together to establish the true ideology of Tawheed.  Tawheed will be left incomplete (or maybe fruitless) if followed by wrong or sinful acts;  and righteous acts (like kindness, charity etc.) will be left aimless and futile with no value in the Hereafter if done without the recognition and acceptance of Tawheed.

It is on the basis of this imperative principle that we confirm Islam to be a complete code of life containing both spiritual ethics beginning with Monotheism or Tawheed as well as practical ethics & morals (aqeedah and akhlaq as explained by that member).

This establishes an inseparable link between Faith and practical life which CANNOT be separated .. something which Ibn Taymiyah has pathetically overlooked or perhaps purposely ignored.  In fact many clerics indulge in the same blunder, misguiding a countless number of people.

Please understand this aspect thoroughly and send it around to educate family and friends.

Allah bless.

Shaykh Ibn Taymiyyāh:
❝It is better to have many sins with correct Tawhīd, than to have a few sins with incorrect Tawhīd.❞  [Fatāwa, 1/466]

This is a very common misinterpretation which is spoken, narrated and compiled in a load of fatwas and ahadith in different ways and with varying insinuations.  It's widely the central theme for misguidance through misinformation by separating Faith from daily life.  Just one out of many examples is the hadith on wudu physically washing away sins.  This kind of rubbish is specifically aimed at turning our spiritual duties into mere rituals by indirectly implying that a person can sin as much as they wish just as long as they offer their prayers afterwards as a conventional protocol to cleanse those sins of their aml (عمل)

Perfectly elaborated Sister Zeynab.  If only those tons of short-cut seekers understood this very basic and simple point.

While Mr. Taymiyyah says this ......

Quote from: misguided shaikh ibn Taymiyyah
Shaykh Ibn Taymiyyāh:❝It is better to have many sins with correct Tawhīd, than to have a few sins with incorrect Tawhīd.❞  [Fatāwa, 1/466]

Allah, The Highest, in His Final Message confirms .....

"Those who believe and obscure not their belief by wrongdoing, theirs is safety; and they are rightly guided."  (6:82)  Surah Al-Anam.

It just shows how little Muslims of today read the Quran and how little they heed it otherwise they would have trashed this fatwa of Mr. Taymiyyah long ago which flatly contradicts a vital tenet of the Noble Quran.

Verse 6:82 (and you'll find many other similar Verses as you read through the Noble Quran) clearly declares the words of munafiqs like Taymiyyah as false and unacceptable.  No further arguments necessary.

Many thanks Sisters Zeynab and Heba for the articulation.
