October 20, 2023, 04:20:20 pm Heba E. Husseyn: Catching Zionist lies isn't hard. Soon after Gaza hospital bombing killing and maiming hundreds, Israel was quick to accuse Islamic Jihad of a misfired rocket.  That didn't sound plausible because IJ does not have such sophisticated bombing devices.  Zionist lie was fully exposed when anglican archbishop of Jerusalem,Hosam Naoum,  said today that 3 or 4 days prior to boming Israel had warned Gaza hospital to evacuate. Yet CIA claims in its flawed analysis that the rocket did not come from Israel.  But conveniently does not explain how Israel could have known 4 days earlier that a "misfired" rocket from IJ was coming.  Yet on the basis of this flawed & bias analysis of CIA, Biden is comforting Israel he believes Israel didn't do that war crimes bombing.

 BismEm

As-Salam Alaykum to all.   The word "rizq" in Arabic generally means provision or supply.  It takes its name from Ar-Razzaq (The Provider) which is one of the 99 names of Allah Almighty.  From what I hear, it has a wider context.  Can anyone kindly throw some light on it.  I need to discuss this topic in our monthly discussions next week and getting some feedback would help.  Thanks in advance.

Walaikum Salam brother TS.

Right brother, "rizq" comes from Ar-Razzaq meaning The Provider, The Bestower, that is, Allah The Almighty.

The word "rizq" is found in the Noble Quran where it means 'provision'  or subsistence or livelihood.   But also in accordance with Quranic contents it can perhaps be expanded to the blessings of Allah on humankind in this world and the next.  Bestowing 'rizq' on every living creature is entirely the Decision of Allah.

According to our jurists, charity is also categorized as rizq based on the concept that anything that "nourishes"  is rizq.  I see the point there and it could be true. After all, those who can afford to pay charity do so because Allah has granted them 'rizq' otherwise they wouldn't be able to.  Some may interpret rainfall as 'rizq' which makes the land fertile resulting in better provision for people.  That too makes sense.

Some extra-Quranic sources sometimes try to claim that "rizq" can also allude to "spiritual provision" by which they mean 'knowledge.'  But I wouldn't stretch it that far.   I cannot think of any Quranic Verse that metaphorically refers to knowledge as rizq.  The precise Quranic definition of 'rizq' is certainly 'provision.'

I am quoting six Quranic Verses that contain the expression 'rizq' and these Verses convey without a doubt that rizq comes from Allah and it refers to His provision for all of His creation.

(67:21)

Standard universal translations:

"So her Rab accepted her with good acceptance and caused her to grow in a good manner and put her in the care of Zechariah. Every time Zechariah entered upon her in the prayer chamber, he found with her provision. He said, "O Mary, from where is this [coming] to you?" She said, "It is from Allah. Indeed, Allah provides for whom He wills without account." (3:37).

"And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Rab, receiving provision,"  (3:169).

"And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its provision, and He knows its place of dwelling and place of storage. All is in a clear register."  (11:6).

"To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth. He extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. Indeed He is, of all things, Knowing."  (42:12).

"[He sent] a Messenger [Muhammad] reciting to you the distinct verses of Allah that He may bring out those who believe and do righteous deeds from darknesses into the light. And whoever believes in Allah and does righteousness - He will admit him into gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide therein forever. Allah will have perfected for him a provision." (65:11).

"Or who is he that will provide for you if He should withhold His providence ?" (67:21)

Really appreciate this.  Thanks a ton Sister Zeynab.  I'll print this page and take it.

Sister can you expand a bit on what the extra-Quranic sources mean viewing 'rizq' as "spiritual provision?"  I too cannot recall of any Quranic Verses making this connection.  Asking only for my information.

Great info along side Quranic Verses, SubhanAllah.  Found it very educational.

I would also like to read your opinion on the question asked by brother TS.

JazekAllah khair and thanks brother and sister.  Actually I haven't read or watched any articles or lectures on 'rizq' as spiritual provision.  But I've read people mention that 'rizq' can also mean spiritual provision referring to knowledge though I don't recall anyone elaborating on this topic.  In my opinion the kind of knowledge that can metaphorically be viewed as 'rizq' is Allah's guidance which illuminates one's mind and gives us the ability to understand this life and the next in a much better, clearer way.  However, this is a well-known fact and a dire necessity without which a person's Faith will remain weak or nothing.  And indeed, those of us who have acquired guidance are very, very fortunate. It is definitely the best and most important blessing to receive from Allah.  The concept of 'rizq' on the other hand, as I've grasped from the Quran, refers to more tangible and concrete aspects of life as already described in my previous post in this thread .. like food, house, clothes, rainfall, source of livelihood or job etc. etc. some of which are necessities and some luxuries.

Hope I've made myself clear, InshAllah.

Thanks Sis .. and that means in this earthly world the recipient of rizq (tangible provisions) can be believers as well as disbelievers.  But believers offer thanks for it while disbelievers do not taking it for granted, and this is another test of humanity which Allah observes.  Right?

Very true.  Rizq is also a test of the level of one's gratitude to Allah.

Lovely and helpful post.  Also Verse 29:62 is a good dua.  It's not about getting rich and neither is getting rich significant to a believer.  But earnest recitation of this Verse keeps one independent.   If Allah grants you His protection for providing rizq, even if you're living from cheque to cheque, you will still continue to get by in life without asking anyone for anything.

(Verse 29:62  Surah Al-Ankabut)

"Allahu   yabsuṭu  al- riz'qa liman  yashāu  min ibādihi wayaqdiru lahu inna  Allaha  bikulli shayin ʿalīmun "

"Allah makes the provision wide for whom He will of His bondmen, and straightens it for whom (He will).   Indeed! Allah is Aware of all things."   (29:62) Al-Ankabut.

Many thanks dear Sister Ruhi.  A particularly wonderful time to put up this lovely dua as we're just two days away from the blessed month of Ramandan.
