 BismEm

Referring to the revelation of the Noble Quran, Allah Almighty says in Surah Abasa, Verses 80:15-16

"(Set down) by scribes
Noble and righteous."
(80:15-16)

Some hadiser neighbors of mine are claiming "scribes" refers to 'sahabas' who narrated the ahadees.

I know that's wrong.  It doesn't refer to those crooks.  NO, no, no.  I told them InshAllah I'll discuss it with my friends and come back tomorrow.  Can anyone please help me out.

No way Sis.   You're right.  They're wrong.  It most certainly does NOT refer to hadith narrators.  How crazy can the human mind get?

This refers to the angels who were writing the scrolls, that is, the Noble Quran  under the direct guidance of Allah Almighty for revelation to the final Messenger (pbuh).  These angels are the ones referred to as "scribes" who were "noble" and "dutiful."  They were guarding and conveying the Divine Revelations on the orders of Allah The Almighty to the Prophet (pbuh).

Let us take a closer look at the original Quranic text, Verses 80:15-16 with translation.

"bi-aydi  safaratin  kiramin  bararatin"
in (the) hands (of) scribes noble dutiful.

Word by word analysis:
bi-aydi = in (the) hands
safaratin =  (of) scribes
kiramin  =  noble
bararatin =  dutiful.

Quoting the commentary of Maududi:

"Two words have been used to qualify them:  kiramin i.e. noble, and bararatin, i.e. virtuous. The first word is meant to say that they are so honored and noble that it is not possible that such exalted beings would commit even the slightest dishonesty in the trust reposed in them. The second word has been used to tell that they carry out the responsibility entrusted to them of writing down the scrolls, guarding them and conveying them to the Messenger with perfect honesty and integrity."

The same reference is also made to the Quran in Verse 85:21-22 Surah Al-Burooj.

"Nay, but it is a glorious Quran.
On a guarded tablet."

a Tablet, Guarded is stated in the original Quran as "lawḥin maḥfuẓin"  The Noble Quran (referred to as "Tablet") was guarded by the angels as it was revealed.  It also refers to the truth about the permanent protection of the Quran by its Author, The Almighty Himself, because of which the Quran will never be altered nor corrupted by human hands like the previous scriptures.  Thus the Quran was guarded by scribes (angels) during revelation and will remain guarded by the command of Allah forever.

Aw!  Allah bless you dear sis for this quick and precise response.  Perfectly clear.  I also feel relieved as their wild arguments got me so furious that I thought I'd get a damn stroke (lol).

I'll print this and take it to the sick jugheads.

Most welcomed Sis Ruhi.  But don't be surprised that even after you show them my reply, they will still say 'no' and continue to claim their bullshit. For them it's not about truth nor guidance.  It's about obstinacy and saving themselves from getting caught about the baatil of Hadith they are carrying on their shoulders.

Yeah sis, of course they'll still reject it.  I'm already prepared for that  Cheesy  But once the truth is disclosed to them, their extended struggles for justifying hadith becomes so pitiful and hilarious that I just chuckle and walk away or change the topic as they babble.  That annoys them still more but they can do nothing;   best of all the feeling of being a loser gets too obvious from the look on their faces which they cannot admit and have to keep it bottled up  Grin
