November 01, 2023, 03:43:43 pm Ruhi_Rose: Yes .. making lots of dua everyday ..... watching those real life video clips, my face feels wet with tears all the time.  May ALLAH grant the best to these wonderful, brave & steadfast martyrs,  Ameen ya Allah.
November 01, 2023, 03:38:26 pm Zainab_M: Keep praying, praying a lot for Gaza. It's worse than a prison .. it's a concentration camp.  Children as young as 10 or 11 are having to care for their younger siblings ages 2, 3 and 4 becoz many have lost both parents.  It's a very, very, very tearful situation there.
October 26, 2023, 03:40:19 pm N. Truth Seeker: Don't forget to look up MV Blog Zainab's Lounge for our Gaza updates.
October 20, 2023, 04:24:44 pm Zainab_M: Right sister Heba.  Gaza hospital bombing has the fingerprints of Israel all over it.  For Israel this is no big crime.  They have done this and much worse many times in the past and intend to do the same and worse many more times in near future.
October 20, 2023, 04:20:20 pm Heba E. Husseyn: Catching Zionist lies isn't hard. Soon after Gaza hospital bombing killing and maiming hundreds, Israel was quick to accuse Islamic Jihad of a misfired rocket.  That didn't sound plausible because IJ does not have such sophisticated bombing devices.  Zionist lie was fully exposed when anglican archbishop of Jerusalem,Hosam Naoum,  said today that 3 or 4 days prior to boming Israel had warned Gaza hospital to evacuate. Yet CIA claims in its flawed analysis that the rocket did not come from Israel.  But conveniently does not explain how Israel could have known 4 days earlier that a "misfired" rocket from IJ was coming.  Yet on the basis of this flawed & bias analysis of CIA, Biden is comforting Israel he believes Israel didn't do that war crimes bombing.
July 29, 2023, 03:02:07 am Zainab_M: Yesterday was Ashura, Muharram 10, 1444 (July 27, 2023).  Read about this very tragic day and details of the world's greatest 7th century revolutionary: WHO WAS HUSSEIN.
June 28, 2023, 09:48:39 am Zainab_M: Walaikum As Salaam.  This was the first Hajj open to all after the pandemic. It was attended by 2.6 million Muslims.

BismEm

 salamem

In accordance with our Muslim (Hijri) calendar, we start our new year in the month of Muharram.  But we do NOT celebrate it. Muharram is a very tragic month in Islamic History - the tragedy of Karbala and martyrdom of Imam Hussein, many members of his family and his companions - that changed the course of the pan-Islamic world.   It's the saddest incident in our History which not only brings back the distressing memories of beloved Hussein, but also a reminder of a permanent sectarian split in the Islamic world with its ongoing devastating consequences.  Henceforth, there's NO "new year celebration" during the Islamic new year.  Moreover, there are NO hard and fast rules that there got to be a celebration when a new year starts.  Absolutely no logical reason for that.   The wild celebrations of a new year turning into an orgy and an epitome of lack of civilization comes from the pagan era of Europe and probably other parts of the world in times of polytheistic ignorance.  Unfortunately many parts of the world currently are immersed in similar pagan ignorance, refusing to focus on logic and truth.   For further clarification of this matter, I quote a paragraph from Sister Zeynab's post titled New Year Celebration, Halal or Haram?  as follows:

"Furthermore, new year celebration is primarily linked with the Julian calendar when the polytheist Romans celebrated the pagan festival of Saturnalia after one of their pagan gods named Saturn.  The festival began from mid December and stretched through the end of December. Then the celebration continued on the first month of the year (January) dedicated to another pagan god of the Romans called Janus from which apparently the name of the month January is derived.  These celebrations were later renamed to 'Christmas' and 'New Year' when the Romans converted to Christianity en masse but the practices remained the same.  During this period Rome had the Julian calendar introduced by Caesar in 45 B.C. After the murder of Julius Caesar, Rome also began celebrating January 1st in Caesar's memory to deify him."

I would also like to repeat Sister Ruhi's words she mentioned in the thread of the same post  "This is a temporary world where hours, days, weeks, months and years keep moving ahead constantly regardless of circumstances.  Just as a new day or a new month is no big deal, neither is a new year.  Just stay focus on strengthening your iman and improving your amal."

The above quotes are very significant logical reminders for correcting a trend of the human mind that's really going wrong, into a direction that leads to nothing and may lead to a variety of harm.

There is no sense in addressing a year as a "bad year" or a "good year."  A year can have pleasant memories or painful memories depending on the wise or faulty perception of humans, or in either case as a trial from The Almighty.    The passing year 2020 is viewed as a 'bad' one because of the sickness, deaths and stress of a pandemic.  Unfortunately it started from the mistakes of humans, their unhygienic practice of running the virus-inviting wet markets in China and south-east Asia and the secrecy of autocratic governments after the detection of the virus.  After the deadly virus got released from one of these markets in Wuhan, China, during end November 2019 and travelled across the globe developing into a devastating world pandemic by February of 2020, it was widely exacerbated by the disobedience of many people around the world who refused or ignored taking the needful precautions such as donning masks, social distancing and often aggressively protesting against lockdowns.  Many governments cared more for economy/money keeping businesses open, refusing to give wage subsidies to people resulting in widespread financial distress of the common people in addition to the pandemic and many parents focusing only on their personal convenience forcefully demanded elementary schools to reopen instead of opting for remote learning despite the availability of resources.   After getting a panoramic view of this continuing episode, think carefully:  Could 2020 have been made a better year than what it came to be?   Quite certainly yes, if the people had acted more wisely from the start and all through the year.  Allah Almighty helps those who help themselves.  But if we continue with the same attitude, 2021 could end up still worse.

Having said that, there are certainly ways for a Muslim to plan and start a new year with the intent and effort to make it productive.  A tough year full of challenges can be perceived as a hard lesson and the need to avoid its repetition in future.  To be introspective is the best way to begin.  Best time for introspection is just before falling asleep at night.  Think deep and analyze yourself and how you need to plan to benefit your soul, improve yourself and consequently help your family, relatives, friends and community.   The first step on introspection needs to focus on improving your relationship with The Almighty.  Remember, with Allah in our lives we have everything.  Without Him, we have nothing.  If you have decided to turn your life around for the better, do not fix a future time for it.  Instead, start immediately for you may not be alive until that fixed moment.   Begin by getting access to knowledge at the earliest.  Knowledge starts from the Noble Quran which helps to correctly shape academic knowledge for maximum benefit of the human soul in this world and the Hereafter.  It strengthens your resolve by providing the supportive pillars of steadfastness.  Get your prayer (salat) schedule regular for there is no better way of periodical remembrance of Allah which is ever so indispensable for perseverance and courage to face the challenges of earthly life .. and earthly life is indeed full of challenges.  Strive to remove negative distractions of earthly life, all of it.  If you remove the negative, you will have time for the positive.  Also, do not be illogically negative about life nor be falsely optimistic.  Credible or feasible optimism can only come by strengthening our Faith and trust in The Almighty after doing our best to handle our trials and adversities.  I repeat, earthly life moves on a rocky path and is full of tests.   Make sure that your commitment to The Almighty is your strongest and prime apparatus for strengthening your character, heightening your conscience and grasping the rope of steadfastness.  Alhumdulilah, what a great ideal that would be!   Such a person has indeed made good of their new year, will never feel reproachful when that year passes nor feel the need for those wasteful, storm-tossed rave celebrations.

Wa'salam dear Sis Heba.   Me too adore this post.    May Allah Almighty bless you dear Sis.

Is it also correct that Umar bin Khattab was assassinated in the Hijri month of Muharram?

No Sister Ruhi.  As history records, Umar bin Khattab was assassinated in the month of Dhul-Hijjah, 23 AH.

But it was Umar bin Khattab who first decided to make Muharram as the first month of the Islamic calendar, commencing from the time of the Prophet's (pbuh) migration from Makkah to Medinah.

Oh!  I see, thanks Sister Zeynab.

Another query.   Lectures on Islamic new year via our traditional sources often say not to address a tough year as a "bad" year because they claim Allah says He is time.   Of course this bit is not from the Quran.   From where did they get this idea?   Hadith or some faulty tafsir?

It's from Hadith, narrated by the champ of all liars, Abu Huraira!

😂

It's from a blatantly forged Hadith by that notorious falsifier.   The hadith says "Let not any one of you say, 'Woe to time,' for Allaah is time."  (Sahih Muslim 5827).   Subsequently, few other copycat versions of the same hadith have also popped up.  All such ones are unauthentic and false.   Allah never said that in the Noble Quran.  Instead, in the Quran, Allah takes oath on various elements of time like morning, night,  sun and moon which indicate time and the passing of time, that are His creation and His designs, and the system and functions of which are controlled by Him.   E.g. refer to Surah 91 Ash-Shams,  Surah 93 Ad-Doha, Surah 103 Al-Asr.
