Canada Post cowed by "very threatening cat"

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Reuters) - Canada's postal system has stopped delivering mail to a home in Winnipeg, Manitoba, after a mail carrier was scared away by a "very threatening cat," the Winnipeg Free Press said on Friday.

A Canada Post spokeswoman said the agency was concerned about the safety of its carriers, although it hoped for an amicable solution to its dispute with cat-owner John Samborski.

"The letter carrier who delivers mail there ... was brought up on a farm, she is very comfortable with animals," spokewoman Kathi Neal told the newspaper. "Apparently this is a very threatening cat."

Samborski told the paper that his eight-year-old, declawed  black cat, Shadow, is docile, and it was "ridiculous" for Canada Post to make him to pick up his mail from a post office instead of delivering it to his door.

Shadow "likes to eat and sleep and cuddle. You could drop a bomb and he'd just open one eye, take a look, then close them and go back to sleep," Samborski, 41, told the newspaper.

heeheheh     ..   yeah it's pretty amusing.   I think this postman (or woman) must be suffering from animal phobia.  It's simply a disease.  Such people even fear baby rabbits, and also a day old kittens and puppies.  As for me, I'm more scared of humans than animals

I surmised the same.  but the CP spokeswoman said that the letter carrier was "very comfortable with animals."  that made me wonder ..

Well .. for them it's all about protecting the name of their organization.  CP being intimidated by a cat sounds a bit derogatory (lol).  Apparently that's why they didn't give any further comments except a general one such as the letter carrier being "comfortable with animals."  The cat owner's statement was clearer and it conforms with the nature of all normal cats.  His cat has been with him for 8 years.  Unlike dogs, cats usually do not discern as well between inmates of the house and outsiders.  If the cat was really so aggressive, the cat owner probably wouldn't be able to cope for 8 years.  Besides, 8 years is more than middle-aged for cats.  By that time they become quite docile.

Thus, after putting two and two together, I sense something wrong with the mail carrier rather than the cat

hmmm, well frankly i've come across many a cranky cats but they don't chase or threaten like aggressive pit bulls or rotts.  fearing to go close to a house because of the presence of an aggressive dog is common and understandable.  but this kind of fear from cats is very very unusual.
