They maybe "Muslims" by title like the Doms.  But certainly not Muslims by practice nor are they recognized as followers of Islam by mainstream Muslims. 

Their nauseating culture is very old, existed from pre-Islamic times. 

Ouled Naeel of Algeria is a Berber tribe (in the country's mountainous region as brother TS mentioned) whose young women specialized in public dancing.   From the age of 8 or 9, their mothers taught them the basics of bawdy dancing.  By the time they were 12 these girls became debauchees and hedonists, completely lost their innocence and left their mountain homes to work as dancers entertaining male clients in the cities.  Sometimes they also went to the oases.  In other words, they were plain whores starting from an unimaginably young age!  Reportedly, after leaving their homes they resided with older female dancers at brothels who played the guardian and trained them  beyond the training already given to them by their mothers.  Few who made a lot of money through whoredom would purportedly return to their mountain villages in an effort to lead a cleaner life.   But most were addicted to that lewd atmosphere and their financial independence, and continued their filthy life.   

The French colonialists who occupied Algeria in the mid 1800s were their keenest clients.   The Ouled Naeel dancers wore long tribal dresses, heavy & weird make-up, henna on hands and feet, loaded with coin-shaped gold and silver jewelry around their neck and headdress.  Most of them were smokers.  Their dances were indecorous, vulgar.  Those French colonialists found these girls very different and "exotic."  After Algeria won its independence from France in 1960s, this stinking culture largely faded.  

The opinion talk of some modern feminists in regard to these medieval harlots is unbelievably repugnant!  In present times where they prefer referring to prostitutes as "sex trade workers" and insist same gender relationships to be normal, they often talk of these medieval Naeel prostitutes with much pride as women "financially independent,"  their glaring indecency often excused for their vulnerability with the preposterous apologist approach claiming that the Naeel prostitutes were more like "escorts" than whores, as if there's any relevant difference between the two worth mentioning.    A prostitute is a woman who will sleep with anyone provided they can meet the price.  An escort is a woman who may sleep with one or two lesser men per day because she has an "official protector," that is, a client she has to hang around with more regularly, yet she carries on with as many others she can find time for.   This is the "difference" which sick minds talk with pride.
