Btw, spot-on that knowledge is never 'secular' as unthinking minds often claim.

Just for my info, what about domains such as literature, poetry, painting, singing and other similar fields of art?  Would it be right to say these fields are "secular?"

No Sister, it wouldn't be right to label them as 'secular' in my opinion.   These aspects of learning can better be categorized as talents.  Basic talent of whichever field you pick, comes from Allah Almighty.  For instance some folks have a knack to write in a manner that's aspiring and eloquent, others can't.  Some have an inborn ability to write wonderful poems or paint fine pictures, other can't.  Some have an aptitude to sing nicely, others don't.   These are all primarily innate techniques or plainly put, gifts from Allah Almighty.  Those fortunate enough to have been given these gifts can work more to perfectionize their expertise, but only if they have been granted the fundamentals of every talent as a foundation.   Without that, just anyone cannot learn to become a skilled artist in any such fields.  Needless to say, that essential foundation (the gift) can only be granted by Allah alone.

Wonderfully put, so obviously true .... I don't know why I didn't think of that.

Allah bless.

Of course the point of keeping things within limits also arises here, a factor Sister Heba already highlighted in her original post.

One needs to make sure that while making use of their talents they don't overstep their bounds and step on to immodesty or any sort of indecency.  For example if one is a good singer and is singing in a dignified manner a song with dignified (Halal) wordings, that's fine.  But many don't.   A lot many times someone may sing well, but the song is lewd and their bodily gestures are lewd. That means they're misusing their talents.  Undoubtedly, The Almighty would hate that.   So one needs to be careful keeping in mind the aspect of modesty, self-respect and limits.

Alhumdulilah, the feature of artistic talents very succinctly summarized by brother TS in those two paragraphs.
