salamem  dear all  😐

Adhan is a Quranic instruction.  It is mentioned in the Noble Quran.

"And when you call to prayer they take it for a jest and sport. That is because they are a folk who understand not."  5:58  Al-Maidah.

'call to prayer' in the above Verse refers to the adhan

The other day my younger son asked me the difference between Adhan and Iqama.  Here's what I mentioned.

Adhan is addressed to the entire community while Iqama is addressed to the people within a mosque or a house getting ready to offer salat.  While Adhan is the call to prayer, Iqama is the immediate call to people closeby to commence the prayer.  Thus the words of the Iqama "qad qamat al-salat" (the prayer has commenced) which isn't in the Adhan. And the Iqama is shorter than the Adhan.  Therefore, Iqama is the second call to prayer given immediately before the jam'aah begins the prayer.

Am I right or did I miss out on anything?

Wa'salam Sis.  Yes correctly mentioned.  Subhan'Allah.  Furthermore, here's the difference in wordings of Adhan and Iqama.

Adhan:

-  Allahu Akbar  [4 times]  (Allah is the Greatest).
-  Ash-hadu an la ilaaha illal Laah  [twice]  (I bear witness that there is no God but Allah).
-  Ash-hadu anna Muham-madan Rasoolul-Laah [twice]  (I bear witness that Muhammad is
the Messenger of Allah) .
-  Hayya ‘alas-Salaah  [twice] (Hasten to prayer).
-  Hayya ‘alal falaah  [twice]  (Hasten to success).
-  Hayya ‘ala khayril ‘amal (twice) (Hasten to the best deed).
-  Al-lahu Akbar [twice]  (Allah is the Greatest}.
-  Laa ilaaha illal-Lah  [twice]  (There is no god but Allah).

Iqama:

"Allahu Akbar" at the beginning are to be repeated twice.  The words "Qad Qamatis salah'
(Indeed the prayer has begun) are to be added after the words "hayya ‘ala khayril ‘amal"
and repeated twice and "la ilaaha illal La" at the end is to be said only once.

Aw thanks, me Sis!   That's wonderful.  I'll certainly pass this on to my son, InshAllah.

Btw, even if you're offering salat at home, Iqama is still necessary, right?

Yes, if one offering salat at home with their entire family.   But if one is alone then obviously there's no need for Iqama though many traditionalists claim Iqama is necessary even if you're offering prayers alone at home.  Just shows how blindly they decide.  The purpose of Iqama is to inform everyone that prayer is about to begin and to join it.  If you are all alone at home and no one to join then you just make your niyyah, recite subhanaka allahumma wa bihamdika .. and then begin your salat.  As simple as that. However, if you desire to recite it even while alone, there is no prohibition either.  But the actual purpose of Iqama is when you are starting prayer in a jam'aah.

Exactly.  And what reason do they have for making the Iqama even if you're alone at home offering salat?

Yes, the adhan in this video is recited beautifully.   Must hear.

@ Sister Ruhi, as you know, they have no reasons for many illogical things they say.
