November 01, 2023, 03:38:26 pm Zainab_M: Keep praying, praying a lot for Gaza. It's worse than a prison .. it's a concentration camp.  Children as young as 10 or 11 are having to care for their younger siblings ages 2, 3 and 4 becoz many have lost both parents.  It's a very, very, very tearful situation there.

October 20, 2023, 04:24:44 pm Zainab_M: Right sister Heba.  Gaza hospital bombing has the fingerprints of Israel all over it.  For Israel this is no big crime.  They have done this and much worse many times in the past and intend to do the same and worse many more times in near future.
October 20, 2023, 04:20:20 pm Heba E. Husseyn: Catching Zionist lies isn't hard. Soon after Gaza hospital bombing killing and maiming hundreds, Israel was quick to accuse Islamic Jihad of a misfired rocket.  That didn't sound plausible because IJ does not have such sophisticated bombing devices.  Zionist lie was fully exposed when anglican archbishop of Jerusalem,Hosam Naoum,  said today that 3 or 4 days prior to boming Israel had warned Gaza hospital to evacuate. Yet CIA claims in its flawed analysis that the rocket did not come from Israel.  But conveniently does not explain how Israel could have known 4 days earlier that a "misfired" rocket from IJ was coming.  Yet on the basis of this flawed & bias analysis of CIA, Biden is comforting Israel he believes Israel didn't do that war crimes bombing.

As-Salam Alaykum dear everyone.

O Allah! Place light in my heart,
place light in my tongue,
place light in my hearing,
place light in my sight,
and place light from below me,
place light from above me,
and light on my right,
and light on my left,
and place light ahead of me,
and place light behind me,
place light in myself
and make the light greater for me.
Increase me in light.  Grant me light upon light.
Ameen.

Whatever extra-Quranic source this is, seems that this source has tried to plagiarise the Divine style of Verse 25:35 Surah An-Nur.   But nothing can ever match the beauty of the style of Allah.

Someone said the source is probably Hadith, perhaps Bukhari.  I would think the connotation is to grant us His guidance and wisdom.  From that perspective it would be a nice and acceptable du'a.

Is it okay to recite it by reading it from a piece of paper as most people wouldn't know this du'a by memory I suppose?

Your feedback on this du'a would be appreciated and helpful.

Walaykom AsSalam Sister.    Yes, it seems to be somewhat plagiarised from Verse 24:35 and as you rightly said, the beauty, elegance and sophistication of the Divine Words are matchless, Alhumdulilah.

As for that extra-Quranic du'a you quoted, the reference is obviously begging or beseeching Allah Almighty to grant us wisdom, sagacity and insight.  If it is recited with this intention, then of course it's fine.   As for its source, yes it's hadith - Bukhari and Tirmidhi, and few other ahadith collections -    Therefore, this du'a also has slight variations.  For example, some outlets add  "make me light."   I don't know what the interpretation of this is supposed to be.  If it  alludes to requesting Allah to fill us with guidance and wisdom, then certainly it's okay.  But the wordings "make me light" do not sound  appropriate for a human being to ask.   Existence in the form of Light is the description and privilege of Allah Almighty only as so wonderfully elucidated by Him in V.24:35.   Even if that line in the extra-Quranic du'a simply refers to granting wisdom to humans, the construction of that sentence doesn't sound right and that line should be omitted.   That's my humble opinion.   Otherwise, based on the lines of this du'a as you quoted, and if it's recited with the correct intention with humility imploring The Almighty to grant us guidance through insight, then it's surely fine in my opinion.

Right brother.  Big thanks.

So, I suppose, if this extra-Quranic du'a is uttered as supplication, we need to be sure we stick to the words of the version I quoted which seems to be acceptable, right?   And of course, the intention should strictly be to grant us wisdom and insight.

A question from my sister.  She was asking if the concept of "light in the grave" be taken independently, setting aside the hadith stories on punishment in grave?

She meant, can it have a metaphorical significance such as referring to a righteous person who is deceased, "light in the grave" symbolizing or implying his or her wisdom of observing right guidance in this world and thus asking for Allah's mercy and favor in the Hereafter for the deceased?

Okay, I read you.  Yes the phrase can carry such a metaphor.   But one needs to be careful and clarify it because such metaphors often have the negative potential of gradually developing into false stories with wide circulation.

Yeah, tell your sister to be cautious otherwise if that metaphor "innovates" it could reignite the hadith ideology of punishments in the grave.
