Quranic ideals of sexuality and gender / homophobia

Assalamualaikum wrt dear members of MV,

Can you clarify as Quran only Muslims what stance should we take towards the LGBTQ movement that often present itself within social activism spheres of society and towards homosexuals of either gender in general?

I am aware of the narration in the Quran regarding the people of Lut pbuh. Allah strongly condemns their behavior as sinful and as a degeneracy that goes against the most fundamental aspect of human nature, that we are meant to form pairs of man and woman.

The thing I am in conflict with is currently the most hateful towards homosexuals and lgbt movement are often the right wing parties that would also hold other problematic ideals such as Islamophobia and racism. Many Muslim leaders in the West also have stood alongside the LGBTQ movement, such as Ilhan Omar and shown sympathies to both homosexuals as well the movement as a whole. Claiming civil rights for them (LGBTQ) will help strengthen the social justice system for the wider society. I personally feel more connected to the former despite their other stances because I believe homosexuality if accepted would condemn all of society to destruction, good and bad thus rendering any form of justice system meaningless.

However, I prefer ostracism and banishment of those admitting to harbor such mentality or in support of others who do. Not violence, unless it involves a crime such as sexual abuse or rape.

Would appreciate to hear your thoughts on this issue, thanks and jazakallahu khayran.

I concur with everything you said to the fullest.   That's exactly how things are moving.
  
In regard to Muslims in the West supporting such movements, it's usually for the sake of politics .. their intent of smooth assimilation with mainstream social/political circles.  A lot of them feel that unless they alter or readjust the rules of Faith, they won't make any professional headway in Western communities.  These folks know that they will be living in the West for the rest of their lives, so it's "when in Rome, do as the Romans do" sort of mentality.  Furthermore, there is so much Islamophobia and ethnic discrimination in many non-Muslim countries, that perhaps and comparatively, those involved in same gender relations are more tolerant & less interfering or judgmental towards the Muslim community which is a relief for many Muslims.  Thus there are many among Muslims who do not have any intentions of getting involved in such practices, yet they are inclined to supporting LGBT groups only because those LGBT guys are generally less Islamophobic, in that, they mind their own business.
  
As for Islamophobic right-wing politicians, many of them are against the LGBT movements but not exactly in the way you may assume.  They are against officially legalizing same gender relations, that is, same gender marriages.  But they have no objections if same gender relations persist at a personal level.  These politicians have never suggested any steps for discouraging same gender relations at personal or individual levels.  In fact, nowadays in several Western countries, even right-wing politicians no longer oppose same gender marriages and it's seldom or never a topic in their campaign trail during elections.
 
As you rightly opined, the best way for a believing and practicing Muslim is to ignore this issue and stay completely away from it.  Nothing can be done to stop those Muslims who support LGBT movements and neither do we have to worry about it as we are all answerable to Allah only for our own deeds.  We are not responsible for the actions and intentions of others.  Therefore as long as we do not become a party to it, it's fine.   Also as you correctly said, it's very relevant to avoid violence, and thus staying away from this issue and ignoring it is the right path to tread upon.
