Eventually when a beast will speak to humankind (V.27:82 An-Naml)

"And when the word befalls them, We will bring forth for them a creature from the earth speaking to them, [saying] that the people were, of Our verses, not certain [in faith]."  27:82  Translation Sahih International.

"And when the word is fulfilled concerning them, We shall bring forth a beast of the earth to speak unto them because mankind had not faith in Our revelations."  27:82  Translation Pickthall.

"When the verdict is given against them, We shall bring a creature out of the earth, which will tell them that people had no faith in Our revelations"  27:82 Translation Abdel Haleem.


As-Salam Alaykum my dear MV folks.  We discussed Verse 27:82 some years ago, but that discussion involved a separate aspect of this Verse, so I'm posting again here. 

Will the event described by The Almighty in V.27:82 happen in this world or on the Day of Judgement in the next world?  Some people are of the opinion it will happen in this world shortly prior to the Last Day.  But that doesn't sound correct.   It comes largely from Hadith sources which doesn't surprise me.

Walaikum As-Salam Sis.   Some interpreters, according to their personal perception influenced by ahadith, are of the view that the Verse refers to a period prior to the Day of Judgement or the Last Day.  But you are right, their opinion about the time appears discrepant, in that, the Verse clearly seems to refer to the Day of Judgement, not prior to it.  The verdict against the guilty will be on the Day of Judgement, not in this world as I clearly understand from the Noble Quran.  Secondly, if such an event happened any time prior to the Day of Judgement, it would be an indication that the Day of Judgement is to happen shortly, very soon.  But Allah Almighty has made it ample clear in the Noble Quran that the Day of Judgement will happen unawares, suddenly, without any indications or warnings.  It is only the Hadith that keeps talking about the 'signs of Qiyamah' without any evidence from the Quran.  Thirdly, in this event of a beast speaking to humankind telling them they didn't believe in the Revelations of Allah will be an occasion when The Almighty will be showing one of His amazing portent to humans.  Such Divine portents will come only on the Day of Judgement, not before it, as I certainly understand from the contents of the Noble Quran.  For example, reference V.6:158 Surah Al-Anam.

"Wait they, indeed, for nothing less than that the angels should come unto them, or your Rab should come, or there should come one of the portents from your Rab?  In the day when one of the portents from your Rab comes, its belief avails naught a soul which theretofore believed not, nor in its belief earned good (by works).  Say, 'Wait. Indeed, we [also] are waiting.' "  6:158  Al-Anam.


Above Verse 6:158 refers quite certainly to the Last Day.  There are also other references in the Noble Quran that assert without a doubt that the Divine portents will be visible to humans after the Last Day, not before it while we are still finishing our term in this fleeting world.

Reference of Verse 27:82, in my humble opinion, is in regard to the Day of Judgement when the status of the guilty is confirmed, a beast that lived in the earth will confront the disbelievers telling them they didn't believe in the Divine Revelations.

Walaikum Salam.  Agree with Sister Heba.   Verse 27:82 alludes to the Final Judgement of the guilty which will be in the next world.  Everyone's final decision and the procedures that follow, whether punishment or maghfirah, will be there not here.

Going against the Quran as usual, hadith commonly assumes that Last Day will have plenty of signs.  There are lots of stories in hadith that claim signs of the Last Day about to happen e.g. coming of Prophet Essa son of Virgin Maryam (peace on them) and offering prayer in Great Mosque of Damascus, coming of Mahdi, sun rising from the West and setting in East, splitting of the moon, lion and goat drinking water together from a stream, and the list goes on and keeps getting longer.  All these citings are supposed to happen shortly before the Qiyamah (Last Day).  I recall, 10 years ago "signs of Qiyamah" released by hadithists consisted of about 20 signs.  Now it's over 40, getting close to 50.  E.g. check this link with Bukhari & co. jabbering away as if no one has read the Noble Quran and we are all fools. 

Some hadithists have gone as far as misinterpreting Verse 47:18 to justify their forgeries on signs of Qiyamah.

"What are the disbelievers waiting for, other than the Hour which will come upon them unawares? Its signs are already here, but once the Hour has actually arrived, what use will it be then to take heed"  47:18 Surah Muhammad.

"Its signs are already here" does NOT refer to the sort of things hadith says in its "signs of Qiyamah."  This expression in V.47:18 refers to the coming of the Final Messenger (pbuh) after whom there will be no other, and it refers to the Revelations of the Noble Quran which will remain original and intact (Lawh Mahfooz) until the Last Day and after which there will be no other Divine Scripture.

Seems now they have also added Verse 27:82 as a sign of Last Day.
