Title: Emu - animal world's most incredible dad! Post by: Ruhi_Rose on September 23, 2013, 03:26:05 am You're gonna love this. But you also might have a hard time believing it. It's true, one hundred percent.
(http://i.imgur.com/2UHJO1O.png)(http://i.imgur.com/pv2IbbO.jpg) Parental love of papa emu is unique. After mother emu lays her clutch of eggs which could be up to a dozen, she calls it quits and straggles off to find another mate. But papa emu responsibly watches over the eggs as they incubate, carefully turning them around more than ten times each day. This brooding period stretches for up to 4 weeks. Then, as a single dad, he lovingly nurtures the emu chicks for the next two years, teaching them how to survive and hunt for food. Mama never returns. Emu is a tall, soft-feathered nomadic bird, similar to an ostrich and most commonly found in Australia. Title: Re: Emu - animal world's most incredible dad! Title: Re: Emu - animal world's most incredible dad! Post by: N. Truth Seeker on September 24, 2013, 03:54:10 am Many human dads also need to learn from the emu. Actually there are several others in the animal kingdom who are also enthusiastic dads, telling human dads that they aren't the only ones expected to be involved in raising kids. Male ostrich, penguin and red fox play a lead role in bringing up their young ones.
Male red fox is a particularly interesting dad, affectionate as well as fun-loving. The paternal bond is cemented early in life when the male is perpetually busy to nourish the offspring by bringing his vixen (female fox) food every four to six hours while she’s nursing the cubs. Once the youngsters are mobile, dad shows great excitement, playing with them endlessly for their first three months. Then he turns teacher, lightly burying food under leaves and twigs and sending the pups out to find it, to develop and test their foraging skills. Here is a pic I had saved from a wildlife site where papa fox is apparently teaching some tricks to his young one. Post by: Zainab_M on September 24, 2013, 04:01:04 am Aw! Another cute pic and interesting read :) Both papa and mama of the red fox 'society' seem equally loving to their cubs. In the human vocabulary, 'fox' is symbolic of a being cunning and selfish. But actually they can teach many good lessons to a lot of humans. |
