Post by: Cherry Khanoom on October 11, 2022, 12:54:00 pm
Salam dear.  How necessary is it to raise your hands while making du'a?  Or are there certain times when hands should be raise for du'a?

Walaikum Salam.   Raising our hands during du'a is symbolic of humility before The Almighty, begging for His mercy and favor.  It's an outward gesture.  In most cases it's become a ritual when people are hardly aware of it.  The most important thing in du'a is to have humility in our hearts, and with humility comes sincerity.  Therefore, it's fine to raise your hands while supplicating if you wish, but even if you don't it's just as fine, as long as you are sincere and humble at heart.

We are aware that according to ahadith and other non-Quranic sources our imams and ulemas have made plenty of rules on when to raise the hands with conflicting views.  E.g. some say hands should be raised only after fard salah, some might say hands should not be raised while making du'a during tawaf or sa'ee.  Others may say the opposite.  But these concepts are insignificant and superficial.   It really doesn't matter either way.    It's entirely up to every individual whether or not they want to raise their hands while making du'a. Allah Almighty takes into consideration what we harbor in our hearts, not the gesture of our hands.
