This may sound unusual but toothpaste is one of the best home remedies for acne at the lowest cost and no risks involved. But it must be the traditional white flouride toothpaste, not the gel. Acne outbreaks are basically an outcome of oily skin. The white toothpaste carries a drying element that dries the pimples faster. Those white toothpastes that contain flouride and peroxide act better on pimples.

Some people tend to think that toothpaste may dry out the skin too much, causing inflammation and redness. But this isn't true at all. If anything, it helps to soothe the acne as the ingredients in the toothpaste have a cooling effect. Use it sparingly and don't paste your whole face with it. If you have acne around the neck and shoulders, it will be a good idea to try out in these areas first, though toothpaste application has never been reported to produce any negative reactions, not even minor ones.

Scores of people have reported from experience that if you put a white toothpaste on a bump right when it starts to erupt, it will stop it in its tracks. It's best to apply it at bedtime. Leaving toothpaste on the skin overnight allows the blemish to be dehydrated. Some people who sleep on their sides or stomach prefer to place a bandage over the area to keep the toothpaste from coming off. In the morning, when the toothpaste is cleaned from the area, the pimple will usually appear smaller or in some cases, completely clear.

It's important to bear in mind that different types of skin react differently. So, what works for one person might not work for another. At worst, it won't work. But it never acts negatively.

Toothpaste is generally more suitable for mild breakouts. It might not show dramatic results in cases of dense acne. However, if applied correctly, in small quantities directly over the spots, it will keep it drier and therefore, will help.

Finally, some positive rules to know for avoiding acne and maintaining a clear skin are:

- Eat plenty of orange foods like tangerines, clementines, carrots, oranges, and other citruses. This will not only help clean up acne, but also make your skin softer and stronger. Also take Vit. C supplement.

- Drink plenty of water, at least 8 glasses a day.

- Keep hair off the face.

- Get enough sleep, minimal 7 hrs.

-  Make sure to use a good cleansing astringent to clean the oil off the face before you wash it. Whatever medication you use on the skin (including toothpaste) should be applied after it's cleansed, washed and dried. A cleanser containing alcohol is affective as it helps to dry the acne. Witch Hazel is also a soothing cleansing lotion.

- If your acne is very oily, then wash your face with lukewarm water and a mild soap at least 3 times a day. This will help much. Also wash around the ears as these areas tend of get more oily than the face.

- Egg whites are also used in a similar way as toothpaste. This can be left on the face for 20 minutes or overnight.

Oh! really ?  I never knew about this.  But it makes a lot of sense.  Toothpaste is a drying agent.  And the purpose of all acne pimple medicines is to dry the spot.  I hear people complaining that many such acne medications, apart from being costly, are too strong and though they knock off the pimples, leave behind blemishes that fade very gradually.  But toothpaste being such a mild product, I'm sure it won't irritate even the most sensitive of skin types.

Really great information, sister.  Thanks for putting it up.  Though I do not have acne  Cheesy  thank Allah for that ..  this info may benefit many of our readers who might like to try it on themselves or tell a family member or friend about it.

Hmmmm .. I was talking to a friend about this a couple of days ago and she said that even if one has no pimples, it's a good idea to apply a thin coating of white toothpaste on those areas of the face that tend to get oily overnight like the nose and forehead.  This makes sense too.
