Brief reflections on specific verses of the Noble Quran

"He who grows (in goodness), grows only for himself, (he cannot by his merit redeem others). Unto Allah is the journeying."  (35:18)  Surah Al-Malaikah

Ever soul will be answerable only for itself on the Day of Judgment.  If we follow the right path as elucidated by Allah in the Quran, we benefit our souls and make favorable provision for ourselves in the Hereafter.  Otherwise we will only make our own souls suffer even if we get away in this earthly world.  A strong faith in Allah and moral goodness only helps the individual who strives for it.  There's no such thing as favoritism or nepotism on the Day of Judgment.  We can acquire the approval of Allah only on the basis of our own merits, efforts and hard work.

Also, in the Hereafter we cannot expect to benefit from the hard work of others.  If a person believes in Allah and does good deeds, that will only help him or her but not their children or siblings or spouses or close friends etc.  These relatives and friends will receive the favors of Allah only if they (themselves) believed and did good works in their earthly lives.  The Noble Quran elucidates a clear example for this.

"Allah cites an example for those who disbelieve: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot, who were under two of Our righteous slaves yet betrayed them so that they (the husbands) availed them naught against Allah and it was said (unto them): Enter the Fire along with those who enter."   (66:10) Surah At-Tahrim

Prophets Noah and Lut were firm believers in Allah and very obedient to Him, but their wives did not follow the right path as shown by Allah.  Even though their husbands were Prophets, the wives of Noah and Lut were followers of bad conduct that was displeasing to Allah.  Therefore, Allah has plainly banished them as wrongdoers and dwellers of Hellfire.  The righteousness of their husbands will benefit only their husbands but not to them, because they were unrighteous and made no efforts to seek the guidance of Allah.
