As-Salam Alaykum dear all.   My question as stated in the title of this post is in reference to Verse 34:41 where The Almighty describes how the disbelievers will plead on the Day of Judgment, denying the shirk they committed. But too little, too late.

"They will say: Be You Glorified.   You (alone) are our Guardian, not them!  Nay, but they worshipped the jinn;  most of them were believers in them."

Your feedback would be helpful.    May Allah bless all of you, ameen.

Walaykom As-Salam Sister Ruhi.  Yes, the jinn were worshiped by pagan Arabs in pre-Islamic times along with their pagan deities.  As I would think, in V.34:41, the term "jinn" alludes to the evil or misguided jinn who follow Satan and distract the weak humans.   In those days, fortune tellers, pre-Islamic philosophers, poets etc. viewed jinn as an inspiration and source of power.  They also made statues of jinn.  Height of ignorance and misguidance!   The information given in the Noble Quran clarifies this matter as to who jinn are, that they are created of smokeless fire by The Almighty just the way He created humans with clay.

Furthermore, according to A. A. Maududi V.34:41 also unveils the wider definition of 'ibadat, quote "ibadat is not mere worship and service, but it also implies carrying out somebody's orders and obeying them unconditionally without question and with a feeling of contentment."  Indeed a very negative trend common in almost all communities around the world and in all spheres of life.  Unfortunately such a mindset is also quite rife among Muslims that includes blind following of jurists even when they proclaim nonsensical fatwas or declarations.  It may in certain cases also include the blind following of despotic governments by both Muslim and non-Muslim communities.  However, there are many situations where people are coerced to serve autocratic leaders out of fear and compulsion, not choice, which in my opinion is a different issue.

Many thanks for the info brother.    This is what I wanted to know.   One needs to pick out ignorance in order to know the importance of staying far away from it.
