 BismEm

As-Salam Alaykum dear MV folks.

'[Allah] said, "O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My Hands?" '

Would anyone know what the expression "My Hands" refer to in this Verse?

Walaykom As-Salam Sister Ruhi.    That's a very good question.  It definitely has a connotation to the infinite abilities of The Almighty but the precise reference is known to Allah only.  Generally Muslim scholars are of the opinion that it alludes to, first of all, the creation of Adam by Allah Mighty directly.  That is, Allah did not command the angels to create Adam but Allah Himself created Adam.  Secondly, the expression "My Hands" is opined to refer to the aspects of the human soul and the design of the physical human system, both created by Allah Almighty.

A similar reference is in Verse 39:67 Surah Az-Zumar quote:

"And they esteem not Allah as He has the right to be esteemed, when the whole earth is His handful on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens are rolled in His right hand.  Glorified is He and High Exalted from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)."

The expression "His right hand" is symbolic referring to the supreme power and abilities of The Almighty which we cannot imagine.   The figurative expression is analogically used that just as a human being would easily grasp a little ping-pong ball of a piece of kleenex in the palm of their hands, it's similarly simple for Allah Almighty to clasp the entire earth which is no bigger than a little golf ball before the supreme power and strength of Allah.   Humans who never believed will be left stunned.

Thus Allah says in the first part of this Ayat "And they esteem not Allah as He has the right to be esteemed, when the whole earth is His handful on the Day of Resurrection,  ("wama qadru Allaha haqa qadrihi wal ardu jamian qabdatuhu yawa al-qiyamati") ....   Love this Verse so much!

Alhumdulilah, it's a breathtaking Verse.   I've memorized the first part of the Ayat you quoted in original Arabic.
