Walaykom Salam brother Jeff. Insh'Allah, I pray you are fine.
Right, as we already mentioned, there's no point discussing Quran alone with Hadithists. We have tried that many times in the past and it has proven to be an exercise in futility on every single occasion .. and a colossal waste of time. So, let Allah be the Judge; we only need to guard our own souls from misguidance by following myths and tales from extra-Quranic sources which include the massive collection of hadith forgeries.
Night prayer or Qiyam-al-Leil is of two types. I mean, it's only the timings that vary, not the method.
1) Night prayer or Qiyam can be offering some optional nafl (extra) prayers (two, four or more rakats whatever you wish) soon after finishing your fard (obligatory) Isha prayer.
2) Night prayer or Qiyam can also be Tahajjud prayers. Tahajjud salat refers to going to sleep after Isha and then waking up couple of hours or few hours later to offer nafl prayer.
Alhumdulilah and Maash'Allah, it's very nice to know you are doing two rakats of Tahajjud prayer in the middle of the night. The reward is immense in the Sight of The Almighty. Definitely the Noble Quran does speak of it. It's optional, as I understand it, but hugely rewarding. We have quite bit of contents on this topic.
If you visit the following links and read gradually, you will know exactly what Night prayers (in Arabic Qiyam al Leil) is. It mainly refers to Tahajjud, that is, waking up after sleeping for some hours to offer nafl prayer and remember The Almighty. It's a wonderful way of getting close to Allah.
