 BismEm

"And when you (Muhammad) are among them and arrange (their) worship for them, let only a party of them stand with you (to worship) and let them take their arms. Then when they have performed their prostrations let them fall to the rear and let another party come that has not worshipped and let them worship with you, and let them take their precaution and their arms. Those who disbelieve long for you to neglect your arms and your baggage that they may attack you once for all. It is no sin for you to lay aside your arms, if rain impedes you or you are sick. But take your precaution.  Indeed, Allah prepares for the disbelievers shameful punishment."  4:102  An-Nissa.

Salams dear all.   This method of offering salat is slightly different from the method we follow in normal times, in that, each group of worshipers offer one rakat, right?    Some feedback on this would be helpful.

Walaykom As-Salam.   Correct, that's what it refers to, offering one rakat.  It is salat offered on the battlefield .. salat offered during war times when soldiers (cavalrymen or infantry in that era of history) need to be constantly vigilant of the enemies who might carry out surprise attacks when Muslim fighters are offering their prayers.   You are right, its method is different from prayers in normal times and each group offers one rakat behind the leader of the prayer (in V.4:102 the leader of the prayer was the Prophet pbuh).  The method is that one group of Muslim fighters offer one rakat behind the leader and then return to the line of battle, while the other group of fighters that was on the battlefield and has not yet prayed, stands behind the leader to join in for the second rakat.  In such a situation, the fighters are allowed to keep their weapons handy while offering their salat as precautionary measure.
