AsSalam Alaykom. As we know, the above Verses are among the final revelations of the Noble Quran.
I've read through the topic and was curious why confusion arise on the particular order of revelation between these two verses when personally speaking the verses themselves make it clear which came first. In my opinion verse 5:3 of Sura Al Maidah came first because it relays the completion of the religion that took place in Medina prior to the conquest of Mecca. Completion of religion meaning all rulings and commandments are finalized and no other new commandments would be sent nor would any existing commandments be abrograted only in the aspect of faith.
In surah at Tawbah verse 28, Allah forbids the presence of polytheists near Masjidil Haram starting from the year following.
This verse seem clearly to be revealed post Conquest of Mecca by the prophet pbuh, as it calls for Muslims to exert control over who gets to visit the Sacred Mosque.
The "religion of Allah" mentioned in surah 110 is thus referring to the completed religion stated in surah al Maidah, which is Islam. While I don't know when this surah was revealed exactly, it readily reads as a prior confirmation of the soon to occur conquest of Mecca to the prophet pbuh as to strengthen his resolve and remove any fear of returning to pagan Mecca from the safe enlightened city of Medina. Thus I believe it is revealed in Medina as well before the conquest of Mecca.
Of course I admit I can be wrong in all counts though and I pray to Allah to guard me from my own ignorance and weaknesses . I would hugely appreciate your feedback on my perspective, jazakallahu khayran.
