As-Salam Alaykum everyone.

There is this utterly false Bukhari hadith which has been shamelessly forged.  Though the hadithists know it is outright fictitious (like many other ahadith), yet they stubbornly retain it in their so-called sahih collections.  This hadith is not only a blatant forgery but also a portrayal of Haram reverence towards bodily emissions as practiced by idolaters and also by some deviated Christians.

The hadith under discussion is as follows:

Volume 1, Book 3, Number 77:  Narrated by Mahmud bin Rabi'a:
When I was a boy of five, I remember, the Prophet took water from a bucket (used for getting water out of a well) with his mouth and threw it on my face.

In other words, the above forgery claims that the Prophet (pbuh) rinsed his mouth with water and spat it on Mahmud bin Rabi’s face.

The same ahadith with added frills by different narrators are as follows:

Hadith # 1:188.  Narrated Ibn Shihab: Mahmud bin Ar-Rabi' the person on whose face the Prophet had ejected a mouthful of water from his family's well while he was a boy, and 'Urwa (on the authority of Al-Miswar and others) who testified each other, said, "Whenever the Prophet , performed ablution, his companions were nearly fighting for the remains of the water."

Another “sahih” Bukhari hadith listed as Kitab ul ilm, Volume 1, Page 41 Hadees 77 claims, quote:  When the Prophet of Islam used to perform Wudhu (ritual washing before the prayer) the Companions used to fight over every drop of water used by the Prophet.

According to hadith experts, spitting water from the mouth was a form of blessing the 5-year-old kid, Mahmud Rabi, received.  They have no qualms defaming and slandering our beloved Prophet (pbuh) with lies, lies and lies only to preserve and protect the forgeries galore within the hadith institution.

The above forgeries go still further insinuating that the Prophet's left over wudu water was special;  not just that, but it also touts the idea that used and impure wudu water was a source of blessing which everyone would hanker after.  Needless to say, such notions are completely against Quranic values and concepts.  Also needless to mention, the Prophet (pbuh) was an epitome of humility, courteousness, impeccable hygiene and the most precise follower of Monotheism; he could never even conceive of telling people to receive blessings by spitting water on their faces nor by encouraging them to use left over water of his wudu.  Anyone indulging in such thoughts and acts is seriously deviated and needs to beware of the wrath of The Almighty on the Day of Judgement.

There are a few more ahadith mentioning the above false contents combined with other topics in Bukhari Hadith Vol. 1, Book 12, Hadith 801 of English translation and Book 10, Hadith 232 of its Arabic version.  By the way, to deepen the controversy and confusion of the hadith institution, the Arabic and English books of hadith carry differing references of same hadith narrations.

Mahmud bin al-Rabi bin Saraqa (sometimes his name also mentioned as Mahmud bin al-Rabi al-Ansari) was supposedly born in the year 628 AD and died in 717 AD;  he claimed to be a "sahaba."   Anas bin Malik (another falsifier) was said to be one of his students.

While Mahmud bin Rabi was born in 628 AD, the Prophet (pbuh) was born in 570 AD.  That indicates an age gap of 58 years.  Thus, when Mahmud bin Rabi was born the Prophet (pbuh) was 58.  Mahmud bin Rabi claims that the Prophet (pbuh) rinsed his mouth and spat the water on his face when he was 5 years of age.  Not possible.  The forgery has been miscalculated.  When he was 5-years-old, the Prophet (pbuh) would be 63.  The Prophet (pbuh) did not live that long.  Let us refresh our minds a bit with truthful history.  The Prophet (pbuh) passed away when he was 62.   The last 3 or 4 years of the Prophet’s (pbuh) lifetime were the busiest  anyone can imagine.  Makkah was conquered on 630 AD.   Between 630 AD and 632 AD, the Prophet (pbuh) spent all his time consolidating most of the region under Islam, to the extent that he had little or not time to spend with his own family, let alone spending time with strangers and their children.  In early 632 AD (some time between February and April) the Prophet (pbuh) performed the final Hajj visiting Makkah and delivering the last sermon.  He (pbuh) then returned to Medinah, and approximately couple of months later the same year of 632 AD, he passed away.  I reiterate, the Prophet’s (pbuh) year of birth is 570 AD.  Thus, he passed at age 62.

Another point to ponder upon.  The Prophet (pbuh) passed away when Mahmud bin Rabi’a was only 4-years-old.  Let’s be rational and ask ourselves, how much can a 4-year-old remember?  Yet this man is supposed to have narrated more than 30 ahadith.  Anas bin Malik, who was supposedly Mahmud’s student, reportedly narrated 40 ahadith.  Both are known as ‘sahabas.’   And since Mahmud bin Rabi was 4-years-old when the Prophet  (pbuh) passed away, obviously his student, Anas bin Malik, must have been born after the Prophet (pbuh) passed away.  Yet both have narrated a bunch of 30 and 40 ahadith, respectively.  A clear evidence that many hadith narrators touted as “sahabas” apparently had no recollections of meeting the Prophet or had never met him at all.  People responsible for spreading this sort of palpable dishonesty will have to answer some very tough questions before Allah The Almighty on the Day of the Tryst.

While doing my research to catch the deceit of this phony hadith, I came across a discussion on the same topic in Islam Stackexchange, where some unsuspecting Muslim was very confused reading this lie and asked for an explanation.  The foul and unauthentic response professed that just as Prophet Essa son of Virgin Maryam (peace on them both) could cure the blind and the leper, similarly Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) could cure people with his spit.  More gossips added in Christianity by clerics claim Prophet Essa’s (son of Virgin Maryam) saliva also had healing properties.   A documentary I watched on Prophet Essa few years ago showed an enactment in which his disciples were washing his feet and consuming the dirty water for drinking .. similarly defaming Prophet Essa (son of Virgin Maryam) of falsehood he never indulged in. The same false concept is reflected in the forged hadith of Mahmud bin Rabi and the spitting of dirty water on his face.

Quoting Islam Stackexhange as follows shows the extent of deviated ignorance that has arisen from the sick interpolations of the hadith culture.

QUOTE:

Habib, either the son of Fudayk or Furayk's said that his father's eyes became so white that he had no vision at all. The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, blew some of his saliva into his eyes whereupon his vision was immediately restored. He was even seen threading a needle at the age of eighty!

Extracted from page 188, section Section 21 – The miraculous healing of the sick and the incurable, from the Book "PROPHET MUHAMMAD - The Cure (Ash-Shifa)" by Judge Eyad. (I actually took it from "Who had the most powerful spit: Jesus or Muhammad?"). There are many other Hadith quoted in that section 21 of that book, talking about the cure/relief by Prophet Muhammad's (pbuh) spit. (Sorry I could not verify them from standard Hadith books).

As others have said and as it is widely believed,

- The spit of prophet (pbuh) was considered Barakah.
- The water left over or the water falling from the wudu of Prophet (pbuh) was considered Barakah.
- The prophet (pbuh) touching a person after making some Du'a is considered Barakah.

UNQUOTE:

As we all know, the Noble Quran mentions about the healing abilities of Prophet Essa son of Virgin Maryam (peace on them both), explicitly emphasizing  that these abilities were bestowed on him only by The Almighty and none else.

Allah The Almighty quotes Prophet Essa (son of Virgin Maryam) in Verse 3:49 of Surah Al-Imran:

“Indeed,  I come unto you with a sign from your Rab.  Indeed, I fashion for you out of clay the likeness of a bird, and I breathe into it and it is a bird, by Allah's leave. I heal him who was born blind, and the leper, and I raise the dead, by Allah's leave.”  3:49.

The Verse above is very clear and simple to follow.  It goes without saying that there is absolutely NO concept of anyone using their spit / saliva or dirty water to ‘bless’ others.   Few Prophets in the past who had specific healing powers, was only by the permission of Allah The Highest, the One and Only.  If Allah wished, He could withdraw those powers from those Prophets any time.

The Almighty states in Verse 2:222 Surah Al-Baqrah:

“Truly Allah loves those who turn unto Him, and loves those who have a care for cleanness.”  2:222.

In Verse 2:222, “cleanness” refers to physical hygiene.  Please open your copy of the Noble Quran and read the full Verse to confirm for yourselves.

That quotation I posted from Stackexchange is yet another example of how eagerly the hadith culture picks and mimics the interpolations of altered Christianity for promoting idle talk, gossips and utter lies.  While the link on the subject of powerful spit was posted in the website of a disbeliever mocking these gossips, the so-called Muslim in Stackexchange, instead of stating these gossips as FALSE to the disbeliever, was taking his mockery as truth.  Yet another example how disbelievers benefit from the fibs of hadith and its copy-cat approach to the altered Bibles.

When will these people start fearing Allah Almighty, stop defaming the Final Messenger (pbuh) and return to the Final Book of Allah?

Walaikum Salaam.

Taubah!  Disturbing.  Leaves me speechless.   These people were NOT Muslims, I think I can say that with complete confidence.  Anyone who is conscientious enough to take the Noble Quran as their Sole Criterion can confirm that these folks were NOT Muslims.

Thank you for your research and wise analysis Sister Ruhi, showing how truth gets distorted.  This was informative and it's a very worrisome situation.

Wa'Salam.   Shocking beyond words!   An offensive lie silently roving around the hadith world with several variations.  You are right, the hadithists try not to speak of this topic.  But at the same time their deviated hearts won’t allow them to trash such nonsense.  For example, read the following.  I couldn’t copy & paste as it was on pdf so took a screenshot.

And …. The following also on a pdf format, don’t recall if it was on the same pdf or a different one about the so-called “evil eye”.. a hadith from Tirmidhi and narrator is probably Umm Salamah or whoever, that’s irrelevant.   But after reading this, one can say there is solid proof Tirmidhi was stark raving baloney urgently in need of help.

 Shocked   😟

Thanks for re-confirming Sister Heba that these rogues who were fearless of Allah Almighty had wandered far away from the path of the Noble Quran.  And anyone who wanders so far from the Quran will never have any respect for the Final Messenger (pbuh) nor for any of his predecessors.  Their behavior isn’t surprising at the least.  But the scenario is appalling, sickening and wily baloney!

Walaykom AsSalam.     Distressing to say the least .. and my anger surpasses my distress.  This forged hadith was posted in Facebook by some non-Muslim Islamophobe under the heading “Islam and Misconceptions.”  That’s how much the falsehoods of the hadith institution are helping these enemies of Islam.

Thank you for this very articulate clarification, sister Ruhi.   I had read the first hadith you quoted some time ago, and it's hard to find if you look for it because as you said, the hadithists are silently aware of the transgressive characteristics of this forged narration and its concept.  Therefore, going through your entire write-up was very educative for me too.  insh'Allah, I must save this for future reference and take it up in one of our upcoming weekly zoom discussions.  The hadithists will surely display knee jerk reactions, but just want to hear from them how they justify such gross notions.

Sister Heba, thanks for the additional input.  It was head spinning to read that!

This type of thing keeps happening all the time .. the ridiculousness spewed by the hadith provides these Islamophobes with excellent ammunition they keep waiting for.

Nice to know your zoom sessions are continuing, Mash'Allah.
