August 01, 2022, 08:48:12 pm Ruhi_Rose: As-Salam Alaykum MV guests. Just a reminder how time flies. We're already in the Islamic new year of 1444 month of Muharram, a very tragic time of our history. May The Almighty grant Hussein bin Ali and his comrades the best spot in Paradise for their unflinching courage to uphold the values of the Final Message, The Noble Quran.  Please read our post Ashura - who was Hussein? June 30, 2022, 05:37:22 pm Heba E. Husseyn: Salaam all.  Today is 1st Dhul Hijja 1443 (corresponding to June 30, 2022).  Day of Arafah will be on 9th Dhul Hijja (July 8th) and Eid-al-Adha on 10th Dhul Hijja (July 9th). Fasting on the Day of Arafah is not obligatory, however it's a good day to observe a nafl fast for those healthy enough to do so.  Insh'Allah.

Why are the 2 sunnahs for fajr salat come before the fard?   Because sometimes when I have little time left after waking up for fajr, and then offer 2 sunnahs first, the time for the 2 fard rakahs almost runs out.  What happens here is that for the 2 sunnah, I get a bit late for my 2 fard.

Salaam, peace.    If you’re short of time, no problem.  Offer the 2 fard first.  In fact I always offer the fard rakahs first even if I have time and then offer the 2 non-obligatory rakahs.  Obligatory rakahs must always be given precedence over the non-obligatory ones.

The concept of offering the 2 non-obligatory (call it Sunnah or nafl) rakahs before comes from the usual Hadith stories where the level of reliability is next to zero even if they call it “sahih” which hardly helps to give much credence.

According to Hadith stories on this topic, the Prophet (pbuh) offered 13 rakahs for the optional night prayers (tahajjud), and then it would perhaps be close to fajr time and the fajr adhan would be sounded.  In between fajr adhan and the iqama, he would offer 2 optional rakahs, and then after iqama offer the 2 fard fajr rakahs.  In other words, according to the Hadith argument, 2 sunnah or nafl was offered by the Prophet (pbuh) because he was already awake prior to fajr adhan.  But some folks may awaken a little late, after adhan.  In that case they certainly need to do the 2 fard rakahs first.  After that, they can offer the 2 non-obligatory nafl rakahs if they have the time.  As things are nowadays, people are often in a hurry when they wake up in the morning on week days to rush for work.  In a situation like this, make sure and try your best not to miss the fard rakahs for fajr before sunrise.  These 2 obligatory rakahs are very important.  If you have the time, also offer the 2 nafl afterwards as  extra ibadah during fajr feels very comforting.  Alhumdulilah.

Those who go to the masjid to offer fajr, may offer the nafl first soon after the adhan sounds and before the iqama begins because in the jam'ah (congregation) for fajr at the masjid, they only offer the 2 fard rakahs (as far as I know).

In that case first offer the fard rakahs with the congregation, then you can offer the non-obligatory rakahs either in the masjid on your own, or offer it after returning home.
