May The Almighty grant Hussein bin Ali and his comrades the best spot in Paradise for their unflinching courage to uphold the values of the Final Message, The Noble Quran.  Please read our post Ashura - who was Hussein? Assaalam Aleikum.  Was Prophet Musa’s du’a in Midian accepted immediately after which he got a job and a wife?  This was mentioned in a lecture by a Muslim scholar, probably from Malaysia, but not sure.  He said that soon after arriving in Midian, as soon as Prophet Musa made a dua to Allah (SWT), he at once found a job and got married. I am not too clear on the details of Prophet Musa’s life in Midian.  I will be grateful if you illuminate this point.  Also please mention which du'a this is.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Walaykum As-Salam.   As you may already know, this part of Prophet Musa’s (pbuh) story in Midian is after he arrived there from Egypt.  He had to run away from Egypt after he killed a man accidentally.  When he arrived in Midian, this was a new place for him.  He had no home and no family here.  He felt very alone and needed every bit of help that Allah Almighty may grant him.  This du'a is in V.28:24 and this part of Prophet Musa’s (pbuh) story is very vividly and articulately described in the Glorious Quran, as everything always is in His Final Message.

Therefore, I am quoting Verses 28:23-28 of Surah Al Qasas as follows for your information.

28:23. And when he came unto the water of Midian he found there a whole tribe of men, watering. And he found apart from them two women keeping back (their flocks). He said: What is your circumstance? The two said: We cannot give (our flocks) to drink till the shepherds return from the water; and our father is a very old man.

28:24. So he watered (their flock) for them. Then he turned aside into the shade, and said: My Rab! I am needy of whatever good You send down for me.*

28:25. Then there came unto him one of the two women, walking shyly. She said: Indeed, my father invites you, that he may reward you with a payment for that you did water (the flock) for us. Then, when he came unto him and told him the (whole) story, he said: Fear not! You have escaped from the wrongdoing folk.

28:26. One of the two women said: O my father! Hire him! For the best (man) that thou canst hire in the strong, the trustworthy.

28:27. He said: Indeed, I wish to wed you to one of these two daughters of mine on condition that you hire yourself to me for (the term of) eight years. Then if you complete ten it will be of your own accord, for I would not make it hard for you. Allah willing, you will find me of the righteous.

28:28. He said: That (is settled) between you and me. Whichever of the two terms I fulfil, there will be no injustice to me, and Allah is Surety over what we say.

*This du’a in V.28:24 is really beautiful and oft recited by many Muslims.  Alhumdulilah.

“Rabbi ini lima anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqir”  28:24 Surah Al-Qasas.

As you can see from the contents of the Noble Quran quoted above, Prophet Musa (pbuh) got a job to make a living shortly after he arrived. This was the most important thing.  He also found a wife, but not immediately.  The father of his future bride told him to work for him for at least 8 years and then he would wed him to one of his two daughters.  This proposal was happily accepted by Prophet Musa (pbuh) and after he finished the term, he was married to one of the two daughters.

Thus, Prophet Musa's (pbuh) du'a was answered by The Almighty by granting him a job immediately and was also granted a wife some years later.  Prophet Musa (pbuh) did not get his wife immediately because at that time he was a stranger to the girl and her family.  For that reason her father put the condition of working for him for 8 years.

I hope the details and the specific du'a are clear to you now, InshAllah.
