Husseyn: Salaam all.  Today is 1st Dhul Hijja 1443 (corresponding to June 30, 2022).  Day of Arafah will be on 9th Dhul Hijja (July 8th) and Eid-al-Adha on 10th Dhul Hijja (July 9th). Fasting on the Day of Arafah is not obligatory, however it's a good day to observe a nafl fast for those healthy enough to do so.  Insh'Allah.

With the blessed month of Ramadan approaching, I am hearing this from everyone.  But I am not able to understand it properly.  Can you please explain its definition and authentcity?

The authenticity level is zero if you take the Noble Quran as your only Furqan and not Bukhari & co.  The Noble Quran does NOT mention this nor does it give any reasons to presume it.  It comes from the Hadith narrated by the infamous fabricator, Abu Huraira, reported in the tainted collection of of Sahih al-Bukhari claiming: “When the month of Ramadan begins, the gates of the heaven are opened, the gates of Hellfire are closed, and the devils are chained.”  Sahih al-Bukhari 1899, Sahih Muslim 1079.   I suppose the reason why traditionalists mention such disinformation is to simplify fasting for people by making them assume that there will be no temptations from outside sources.  But even according to their own discrepant logic, temptations from within one's heart will still be there and even if the devils among the jinn are "chained," temptations from evil humans will still be there.  Briefly put, whether or not anyone is chained, the only real source of inviting and accepting evil temptations is a person's own heart & mind.  If the person's Faith in The Almighty is strong, they will defeat those evil temptations otherwise not.  Thus Allah says "Indeed, Allah changes not the condition of a folk until they (first) change that which is in their hearts;"  13:11 Ar-Ra'd.   

Neither does Allah Almighty say anywhere in HIS Final Message that the gates of Jannah will be open in Ramadan.  Complete guesswork.  This is the same as another fabrication that good deeds in Ramadan will be multiplied 10 times, NOT supported by the Noble Quran at all.  Good deeds are always loved by Allah Almighty, and whether or not HE sees the good deeds of Ramadan as more special is up to HIM.  He has not stated anything in the Noble Quran to assume such a concept of multiplying good deeds 10x in Ramadan.  The traditionalists' idea behind such fabrications is to attract people to fast.  However, one should attract people to the Path of Allah with truth, not by uttering false stories about which Allah has given us no authority.
